Subaru Ascent 6-Month Report Card - The SUV Is Only Average

What is the 2023 Subaru Ascent report card after the year's first six months? The newly-upgraded 2023 Subaru Ascent is still the fourth best-selling SUV in Subaru of America's (SOA) lineup. The Ascent is only average. 

The refreshed 2023 Subaru Ascent only ranks fourth in SOA's lineup, with 5,889 3-Row SUVs delivered to customers in June. The Ascent was up 5.1 percent compared with the 5,603 models sold in June 2022. The Ascent is up 7.1 percent in the year's first six months. SOA delivered 33,141 Ascent models to customers this year compared with 30,931 in 2022.

"Our lineup offers something for the whole family, and we just announced competitive pricing on our model designed to accommodate families in safety and comfort, our three-row 2024 Subaru Ascent SUV, which hits the road this fall," said Troy Poston, Senior Vice President of Sales.

The 2024 Subaru Ascent gets new upgrades that make it safer. 

The 2024 Ascent comes with Subaru's latest EyeSight safety technology, including a Wide-Angle Mono Camera. Subaru says the enhanced EyeSight driver assist system operates more smoothly and in an extended range of conditions. The improvements are a result of a wider field of view, updated control software, and the addition of an electric brake booster.

What is the price of the 2024 Subaru Ascent?

The 2024 Subaru Ascent comes in six trim levels. The Base trim starts at $35,490, and Premium trims begin at $38,090. The Ascent Onyx Edition starts at $42,890, the upper Limited starts at $43,190, the Ascent Onyx Edition Limited is priced at $47,890, and the top-trim Touring has a starting MSRP of $49,790. Pricing includes destination and delivery fees now $1,295 (+$70). 

How much did the 2024 Subaru Ascent trim levels increase in price?

The Base trim gets a $370 price increase, Premium +$370, Onyx Edition +$370, Limited +$370, Ascent Onyx Edition Limited +370, and Touring +$370.

Is the Ascent expensive to own?

In Kelley Blue Book's (KBB) 2023 5-Year Cost to Own cars, trucks, and SUV awards, KBB says the 2023 Ascent is the lowest cost-to-own model in the 3-Row Midsize SUV category. KBB predicted the 2023 Ascent to have a 5-year cost-to-own of $47,833 (including the purchase price), which is $5,087 less than the Three-Row Midsize SUV segment average.

What is the Ascent IIHS safety crash score?

The Ascent is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ with some of the best overall ratings of any midsize SUV. It earned a "Good" rating for its headlights and all seven crash tests, including the updated side test. The Ascent also secured an Acceptable rating in the nighttime front crash prevention evaluation.

The Ascent is a safe vehicle for families but still gets a "C" for its six-month report card. Ascent sales are up in the first six months of 2023, and active families are putting the 3-Row SUV on their shopping list this year. In the competitive 3-Row SUV category, Ascent is only average in sales performance.
