New Data Reveals Don’t Buy The Jeep Wrangler, Pick Subaru Outback Instead

Should you buy a 2023 Jeep Wrangler or a Subaru Outback? New data reveals why you should avoid the Jeep Wrangler and buy the Subaru Outback instead.

Which is better for midsize SUV shoppers, the 2023 Jeep Wrangler or the 2024 Subaru Outback? New data from iSeeCars reveals why you should avoid the 2023 Jeep Wrangler and buy the 2023 Subaru Outback Wilderness instead

A new report from iSeeCars said when they analyzed over 13 million new cars, the study found manufacturer pricing for new vehicles has increased 7.4 percent in the past year. But some models have increased significantly more.

2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness is the best pick now

The models priced highest above the Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) are primarily luxury or lifestyle models, "with the Jeep Wrangler holding its near-perpetual status of high demand, with market pricing to match," says the iSeeCars report.

If you buy a Jeep Wrangler Limited trim level, you will pay about $54,970 for the new model because of high dealer markups. The MSRP of the Wrangler is only $41,966, which is $13,000 more than you expect to pay above retail. The Wrangler is the highest-priced new vehicle above retail at 31.0%.

2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness is a better value than Jeep Wrangler

Do Subaru retailers charge more than MSRP for the Outback Wilderness?

When the Wilderness was a new model in 2021, a few Subaru retailers were carrying well over MSRP. But when Subaru of America President and CEO Tom Doll found out, he sent a letter to its U.S. retailers asking them to refrain from the practice.

Now if Outback Wilderness customers find a Subaru retailer asking way over MSRP, you can find a Subaru dealer close by who isn't raising the purchase price.

2024 Outback Wilderness upgrades

The Outback Wilderness will handle more challenging trails with 9.5 inches of ground clearance, a nearly one-inch increase over the standard model's 8.7 inches.

The Wilderness trim includes additional body cladding and under-armor protection with front skid plates, an anti-glare hood decal, and hex-design LED fog lights.

Wilderness also has Yokohama Geoplander all-terrain tires for optimal mud, gravel, or snow performance, and they come wrapped around 17-inch alloy wheels in a matte-black finish.

The rugged SUV is attracting new customers to the brand who seek to go deeper into the woods, mountains, or desert. So now, Subaru has the 2024 Outback Wilderness, arriving this fall for outdoor enthusiasts.

Many Jeep buyers will pay 31.0% more than MSRP for Jeep Wrangler Limited. The 2024 Subaru Outback Wilderness is an excellent alternative costing about $14,000 less.
