First Look At The New 2020 Subaru Forester Model Upgrades

The 2020 Subaru Forester is coming this fall with a few upgrades for the 2020 model change. Check out the new safety feature.

Torque News first heard about the 2020 Subaru Forester model change from the newest Japan models. Subaru of America has not released pricing or specs on the second year of the new-generation models, but now we get more information from Subaru Canada about the 2020 Forester compact SUV.

The newest upgrade for 2020 is all Subaru Forester trims will come with a new Rear Seat Reminder like the second-year 2020 Ascent will get. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 53 children died trapped in hot cars in 2018, so new seat reminder systems are an extra level of safety for busy parents. The new feature will give the driver a reminder on the dash to check the rear seat before exiting the SUV.

Like on the Ascent family hauler, the system will not be able to physically sense the presence of children or pets in the rear seat area, but it will turn on if one of the following conditions is met: the vehicle is started within 30 minutes after a rear side door is opened and closed; a rear side door is opened and closed when the vehicle is running and stationary; the vehicle is turned off and back on again within 30 minutes, and the rear side doors remained closed.

According to Subaru Corporation, the 2020 Forester will also get a new exterior color, Magnetic Gray Metallic. The 2020 Forester will also feature a new LED license plate lamp that will come standard on Sport, Limited and Touring trims.

The 2020 Forester in Canada gets a $700 price increase ($30,420, including shipping) over the standard models, and Starlink Connected Services are available in Canada for the first time. The system uses voice-response technology with the addition of live assistance for features such as advanced automatic collision notification in the event of a collision, SOS emergency assistance, enhanced roadside assistance, and concierge service.

Subaru will bring the 2020 Forester for North American customers this fall, so if you didn’t buy the newly-remodeled 2019 model, a few more improvements are coming for the compact SUV. Subaru of America has not released pricing on U.S. models. Stay tuned.

Pretty minimal "upgrades," and hardly worth waiting for the 2020 model. Not holding my breath for the turbo to return anytime soon, even though Subaru left the enthusiasts out in the cold.
