Meet the Newly-Refreshed 2018 Subaru Legacy; It Breaks Cover in Chicago [Full Gallery]

The newly-refreshed 2018 Subaru Legacy breaks cover in Chicago. What’s new on the family sedan?

Magnetite Gray Metallic and Crimson Red Pearl are new colors for the newly-refreshed 2018 Subaru Legacy sedan, but neither broke cover at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show. Subaru fans can catch the new 2018 Silver sedan at the Subaru booth at the Chicago show that runs February 11-20, 2017. Maybe Subaru doesn't have either color ready yet.

The 2018 Legacy gets more than a mild refresh and now features revised styling and significant upgrades to comfort, safety, and technology. Subaru made many major changes, and countless smaller engineering and design changes to enhance the 2018 Legacy beyond the two new exterior colors.

The Legacy sedan received a complete remodel for the 2015 model year, and this is a mid-cycle refresh for the popular all-wheel drive sedan. Legacy is due to get a complete remodel in 2020, and that’s when it gets the new Subaru Global Platform. Until then, it still comes standard with Symmetrical all-wheel-drive and a stellar safety record. It keeps the 175-hp 2.5-liter 4-cylinder Boxer engine, and the Legacy 3.6R stays with the 256-hp 3.6-liter 6-cylinder Boxer power plant.

Subaru will be upgrading all their boxer gasoline engines to direct injection starting with all future-generation models. The technology will be standard in the next-generation boxer engines Subaru will roll out, and they will also be adding cylinder deactivation and lean combustion cycles in these engines by 2020.

It comes with refreshed styling outside with wider, lower grille openings and new front bumper, along with a newly-designed hexagonal grille, now with distinctive wing element. The redesigned C-shaped headlights now feature distinctive “Konoji” daytime LED running lights. Out back, Legacy gets a wider, more planted stance, with a new tailpipe design integrated into the lower fascia. The sedan also gets new high-contrast wheel designs and two new exterior colors, Magnetite Gray Metallic and Crimson Red Pearl. The newly-refreshed 2018 Subaru Legacy sedan can be seen at the Chicago Auto Show February 11-20, 2017.
