New custom Nissan NV200 Chicago Taxi unveiled at CAS

The Chicago Auto Show sees another unveiling, this one coming closer to home, as Nissan shows off the latest rendition of the NV200 Taxi specialized van. Hint: it's made for the Windy City.

Chicago is not like other cities and at the Chicago Auto Show, going on now, people can see just how unique the town is thanks to a new offering from Nissan, the latest NV200 Taxi package, this one tailored to the unique needs of the Windy City.

So far, city-specific NV200 Taxis have been debuted for New York City, London, and a handful of other cities around the globe and now, visitors to the Chicago Auto Show can see what Nissan envisions as a perfectly-tailored taxi cab for their own streets.

The project is ongoing and Nissan is asking cabbies in Chicago to share their thoughts about what they should include in that package for their specific needs. Comments can be posted to Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #HailYes.

Meanwhile, Nissan is showcasing not only the fact that the NV200 Taxi is the only taxi on the road to have been crash-tested with its partition installed, but that this custom-fit divider is part of a full suite of driver and passenger safety devices built into the vehicle, including fully-functioning airbags built specifically to keep people safe within that passenger compartment.

"With great feedback from drivers, riders and media in New York, we've had a number of dealers across the country raise their hands to get a supply of NV200 taxis for cities such as Seattle, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City and across Texas. We think Chicago is a natural fit for the premium taxi experience NV200 delivers at a competitive price," said Fred Diaz, senior vice president, Nissan Sales & Marketing, Parts & Service, U.S.A.

The Chicago-specific design includes green-and-white tri-tone paint, a modern take on the historically popular Chicago color scheme for taxi cabs. Other NV200 Taxi features include panoramic sky views from the roof, easy-clean seating surfaces, improved leg room, better cargo access and space, and anti-fatigue driver's seats.
