Chrysler recalls 2009 Dodge Journey for airbag risk
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the 65,180 2009 Dodge Journeys recalled have a front door wiring harness that can wear and break over time. Contained in this harness are the wires that connect to the side-impact sensors and when those wires are disconnected, the side-impact airbags are likely not to open in the case of being hit on the side – greatly increasing the chance of an injury during an accident. The good news is that should the wiring harness fail, the airbag light in the driver’s information center will come on so this is not a problem that comes without warning.
There have been no reports of any injuries or wiring fires stemming from this broken harness and if you own one of the recalled 2009 Dodge Journey crossovers with an airbag light lit on the dash, you should make an appointment with your dealership to have it checked out. If you own one of these vehicles and there is no airbag indicator light on the cluster, then you can expect a letter from Chrysler early next month inviting you to stop by your local dealership where they will replace the door wiring harnesses for both front doors.
