Nissan Slyline GT-R, Corvette's Japanese soulmate

John Goreham    February 4, 2013 - 9:21AM

In Japan, the Nissan Skyline GT-R is thought of in the same way that US enthusiasts view the Corvette. Here is why.

Ive done a couple long "history of the skyline" articles...

for import sites...in the 1970s, the prince skyline was SO dominant in racing that many european series' banned it because porsche - who had been the top dog for years - was tired of getting their asses best by a fairly pedestrian japanese compact. sadly, the pissing match between nissan motors and prince motors prevented the car from ever being introduced here. that is one of the reasons why the GTR isnt called the skyline..

Most of those accidents were not my fault .. e.g. I was the passenger a couple times, and another time was while working as a tow truck driver and an idiot didn't see the flashing lights on the tow truck and plowed into me while I was working. Totalled both his car and the car I was working on, pinning my legs at the point of impact. I'm lucky to still be walking. Before you make fun of someone elses statement ....

Wasn't trying to be mean, David. It was a joke. I was a professional, over the road driver for three years and didn't have a single accident. The three accidents I have been in otherwise were not my fault - one someone ran a stop sign and the other two I wasn't driving.

Anyway, I apologize if it seemed I was making fun of you. I was attempting to crack a smile.
