Boost Your 2023 Toyota Tundra's Towing Power, But Watch For These Issues

If you are a 2023 Toyota Tundra owner and you are thinking about lifting your truck, the downside may outweigh the upside, Here’s how.

The 2023 Toyota Tundra has won my title for best looking full sized truck out there. I really like the futuristic yet minimalist look to the outside and how the windows of the doors merge into the windshield in that all black fashion. It really shows just how much effort Toyota put into the design phase of the truck to make it appeal to all truck lovers.

For some truck lovers, lifting the 2023 Tundra may be the option. I live in the South Eastern United States and down here you rarely see a truck without some sort of suspension modification. It’s interesting, the further east you go, the higher the trucks get, the further west you go, the lower the trucks get.

Now most of the time people lift their trucks for looks or off-roading. Lifting your truck increases road-clearance thus making your truck more suitable to off-road. However, some 2023 Tundra owners have lifted their trucks for better towing capabilities. This is in part due to the way the weight shifts and suspension works when under stress by the trailer. Sometimes Tundra owners raise their trucks so that their trailer can be level with the tow hitch.

However, some 2023 Toyota Tundra owners have stated the negative side effects you will get from lifting your truck to better your towing capabilities. I asked this question on a Facebook group and one of the owners responded by saying, “Most add bigger tires so it’s more rotational mass as well as increased wind resistance, and without a regear the gas mileage will go down along with transmission shifting. That said, none of those necessarily negatively affect towing.”

So, while a lift can help with weight distribution on the 2023 Tundra, you should expect to see a significant decrease in fuel efficiency. How much of a decrease in fuel efficiency depends on what type of lift you are installing and what kind of tire and wheel you are going to use as well.

Lifting Your 2023 Toyota Tundra can Increase Towing Capabilities, But Watch Out for This One Problem You May Encounter

If you are going to lift your 2023 Toyota Tundra, most people who have done it tend to use fatter tires, so the road noise won’t be as bad. Speaking of road noise, expect a lot of it when you lift your 2023 Toyota Tundra. When you lift a truck, the amount of air that passes through the undercarriage of your car increases. This creates a lower pressurized vacuum which makes a louder noise to it due to the faster dissipation of air.

In retrospect, lifting your truck can increase your towing capability but your MPG will go down, you’ll have more road noise, and you’ll have to invest in bigger wheels and tires. That being said, lifting your truck also looks really cool so if the “cool factor” is what drives you then by all means go ahead.
