Exclusive Report of FSD 12 Going Out to Non Tesla Employee: "You Can Tell It Was Trained To Mimic Humans"

Tesla FSD 12 (using only neural nets) is being released to non Tesla employees, and the first feedback on it is that you can tell it was trained to mimic humans. We have an exclusive first look.

Tesla FSD Is Now in the Hands of Non-Tesla Employees

Tesla is releasing their FSD 12 software, which uses nothing but neural nets, and replaces around 300,000 lines of C++ code. We have an exclusive first look from a non-Tesla employee, Whole Mars Catalog. Here is his report and at the end, there is a video posted of the whole experience!

First off, he got the update to install FSD 12 and began to install it on his car. The release notes are pretty simple. They say: FSD Beta v12 upgrades the city-streets driving stack to a single end-to-end neural network trained on millions of video clips, replacing over 300k lines of explicit C++ code.

His first two drives with FSD 12 were both zero intervention. That means no accelerator or brake presses and no speed changes - no takeovers and no awkward moments. These two trips totaled about 5 miles.

He says that there are major improvements in every category.

FSD takes speed bumps down to an 8 - which I assume to mean 8 miles per hour. That's a lot slower than it has in the past, and this is a good number to take a speed bump at - that's an improvement.

He also says that FSD Beta 12 takes off from stop signs like a human. I hope it means that the car only stays stopped for a brief second, rather than the multiple seconds it currently does.

So far so good, in my opinion. Let's see what else he has to say.

More on FSD Version 12

Whole Mars also says this about FSD 12: You know when you have to go around a stopped car, but there's a car coming from the other side? FSD 12 can do that without stopping and waiting for the oncoming car if possible.

He also said that FSD 12 pulls over just like Elon's live stream of it a few months ago.

There's also apparently this one section of Lombard Street in San Francisco where for years FSD would read the wrong traffic light on the other side and slow down for no reason. FSD 12 handled it flawlessly.

He says there is very little hesitation with FSD version 12.

The biggest and most important statement he shared was this:

Human like. You can tell it was trained to mimic humans.

He also says that in the visualization for FSD Beta 12, the path planner line disappears when the car isn't moving.

Next, he says there was this one situation with two fire trucks and firefighters beside the truck in the path of the car. Kind of weird situation that would trip up FSD 11. FSD 12 handled with no interventions, without doing anything that made anyone uncomfortable.

He forgot to mention that all these first impressions of FSD Beta 12 have been in the rain.

He says that the Tesla AI team has outdone themselves again. This is the biggest FSD update ever. So many improvements in so many areas.

He also reports that:

V12 just went out without Elon hype-tweeting it or it missing a few deadlines - incredible. Now is a good time to subscribe to or buy FSD for your Teslas.

Further describing his drives, he says:

I saw FSD 12 read a stop ahead sign, allowing it to avoid running a stop sign that it always tries to run (coit tower). At least that's what it seemed like it was slowing down for. Hard to know for sure.

This other time it said stop ahead on the road, and it started slowing a little bit when it saw "STOP" then sped up again when it saw "ahead". He wonders if the software can read things in real time now.

So far, this doesn't appear to be a wide release to everyone that isn't a Tesla employee - but we'll keep an eye out for more information on that.
