Subaru’s Next New Big Reveal Is The Worst-Kept Secret

What is Subaru’s worst-kept secret this year? It’s unannounced, but the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness will launch in early 2023.

When will Subaru announce the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness? It’s the worst kept secret, and Subaru will not announce the all-new Crosstrek Wilderness until late this year. The next-generation 2023 Subaru Crosstrek will begin production in early 2023, and the Crosstrek Wilderness will follow in the spring.

Why is Subaru waiting so long to release information on the new Crosstrek Wilderness? Subaru wants to bring the all-new Wilderness trim level when the third-generation models get a complete remodel in early 2023 to create more excitement for the subcompact SUV and the brand.

To keep the momentum going, the next big launch for Subaru of America will be the 2023 Subaru Solterra all-electric SUV coming mid-2022. Soon after, the 2023 Subaru Outback, Ascent, and Legacy will get a refresh with new front and rear exterior styling, interior upgrades, new wheels, and possibly new exterior colors.

The all-new next-generation 2023 Subaru WRX STI will come in the fall of 2022 and be one of the most anticipated new model launches for Subaru Corporation since the 2022 WRX was revealed late last year.

The rugged Wilderness brand continues to grow

Subaru of America introduced a new sub-brand of rugged, off-pavement Wilderness-badged Subaru SUVs. First, the 2022 Outback Wilderness, the 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness, followed, and even though it has not been officially announced, next is the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness subcompact SUV.

The global supply chain issues will slow production of the new Crosstrek Wilderness. The Crosstrek is manufactured in the Gunma, Japan factory, where the automaker had to slow production late last year.

Subaru Corporation says production in Japan decreased 11.3 percent “as a result of the production adjustments caused by the delays in certain parts supplies due to the spread of the coronavirus in Southeast Asia as well as the global shortage of semiconductors.”

Subaru reports production in the U.S. factory in Lafayette, Indiana, has increased 13.8 percent where they manufacture the Outback, Ascent, Impreza, and Legacy models.

What engine will power the Crosstrek Wilderness?

Like the Forester Wilderness, Crosstrek Wilderness will most likely be powered by a naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter engine. Look for the Wilderness trim to stay with 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. The power should be adequate with the additional weight of the full-size spare tire and standard front and rear skid plates.

The all-new 2023 Crosstrek Wilderness will have an advanced dual function X-Mode, elevated 9.2-inch ground clearance, and an upgraded off-road suspension. The Crosstrek Wilderness will wear 17-inch Yokohama Geolandar all-terrain tires and feature a modified Lineartronic CVT automatic (Continuously Variable Transmission) and an upgraded rear differential.

What is the price of the Crosstrek Wilderness?

The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness will be priced around $3,000 more than the Crosstrek Sport trim. Look for a price of just under $30,000.

Subaru of America is tight-lipped about releasing information on the outdoor adventure model. The off-road-ready 2023 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness is expected to make its official U.S. announcement late this year, and its reveal in the spring of 2023. Stay tuned.
