Next-Gen 2024 Subaru Forester Will Have A New Green Light Notification

What kind of safety technology is coming to the next-generation 2024 Subaru Forester and other new models? Check out what Subaru has planned.

Subaru Corporation announced the next-generation Eyesight safety technology would have a new "green light notification" function. The 2024 Subaru Forester is scheduled to get a complete remodel and could be the next Subaru model to get the latest driver assist safety technology.

Subaru Corporation says the next-generation Subaru models with EyeSight will support the prevention of "accidentally" moving forward while waiting for a traffic light. Sounds and displays will notify the driver if the light turns red and continues to park for a fixed time.

The new generation EyeSight recognizes the traffic environment more strictly through adopting high-performance software and the newly developed stereo cameras that broaden its view of the road. "It serves a wide range of scenes at intersections," says Subaru.

How does Subaru EyeSight work?

Subaru's EyeSight safety technology uses a stereo camera that monitors the front of the vehicle and can identify cars, pedestrians, white lines, and other objects. The system offers recognition performance with a wide viewing angle and viewing distance and recognizes brake lamps using color images.

Expanded view at intersections

Subaru says, "The additional camera further expands the field of view to recognize pedestrians and bicycles sooner when the vehicle enters an intersection at low speed."

EyeSight alerts the driver and, when necessary, applies brakes to avoid collisions with cars, bicycles, and pedestrians. The newly-upgraded 2023 Subaru Outback and 2023 Ascent now feature a new wide-angle Mono Camera that works together with the next-generation dual-camera EyeSight safety technology.

How does EyeSight compare with other car brands' technology?

A recent NHTSA report revealed Subaru's EyeSight technology in the 2022 Subaru Forester, Outback, Crosstrek, Ascent, and other models equipped with the Level 2 Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology works better than the leading brands. Tesla and Honda's vehicles come equipped with similar ADAS technology, and the NHTSA says Subaru vehicles have fewer crashes than both Tesla and Honda models.

Subaru has a goal of zero fatal traffic accidents by 2030. Subaru Corporation now says the new generation EyeSight that's standard equipment on models like the 2024 Subaru Forester will have a new "green light notification" function to prevent accidents at intersections. Coming soon is our evaluation of EyeSight on a 2,200-mile road trip.
