The Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Could Debut Next Wednesday

Dodge boss Tim Kuniskis announced last week that there will be a big performance reveal that we expect will be the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat at the 2014 Woodward Dream Cruise, but while the car might debut to the public on Saturday August 16th, it seems as though the media will get its first look a few days before the massive Detroit cruise day.

Today, the Chrysler Group formally announced that there will be a big debut on Wednesday August 13th at a private event near Detroit and in stating that we would be meeting the brand’s “next ultimate performance vehicle”, my guess is that it will be the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat. While I could be wrong, it seems that pretty much everyone agrees that the Woodward Dream Cruise will introduce the world to the 707 horsepower Charger. Supporting this idea is the fact that the Chrysler Group reps who will be on hand for the surprise reveal are all related to the SRT branch of the company – so it most certainly has to be a high performance model.

A Woodward Debut is a Surprise That Makes Sense
Provided that this mystery performance reveal is indeed the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat and provided that it has the same 707 horsepower supercharged Hemi as the Challenger SRT Hellcat, this will be the most powerful sedan in the world while probably also being the quickest and fastest sedan in the world. Some might think that a major auto show would make for a more fitting stage on which to debut the world’s most powerful sedan, but when you look at the fact that the Woodward Dream Cruise is the biggest meeting of American performance cars anywhere in the world – it makes quite a bit of sense. A major auto show might bring in more foot traffic, but the odds are good that a great many of those showgoers don’t understand the need for a high performance car.

On the other hand, every single person (within reason) who attends the Woodward Dream Cruise understands the allure of a super powerful vehicle like the Charger SRT Hellcat. There is arguably no even that draws the number of enthusiasts who are directly in the key target market of the Hellcat Charger so in rolling it out on Detroit’s Woodward Avenue – the company is allowing a great deal more interested individuals the chance to see the world’s most powerful sedan. Oh, and aside from parking, the Woodward Dream Cruise is free to spectators so visitors to the sprawling Chrysler Group display at the corner of 13 Mile and Woodward will get to meet the 707hp Charger free of charge.

Other Possible Vehicles to Debut
The “next ultimate performance vehicle” is almost certainly the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, but there is a very slim chance that it could be something else. I would still expect it to be an SRT product and there are a couple other vehicles from the Street and Racing Technology division slated to arrive within the next couple year. This includes the SRT variant of the Dodge Dart and the Dodge Journey, but I don’t believe that this big debut will be either of those vehicles since their actual arrival to the market isnt expected for at least a couple years.

The most likely possibility (other than the 99.5% likelihood that it is the Hellcat Charger) is that this new performance vehicle could be the refreshed Dodge Viper. We were told to expect a refreshed Viper during the 2015 calendar year so maybe the Woodward Dream Cruise will bring about the introduction of the new Viper Roadster – but in concept form. Not really likely, but it is a possibility that has to be mentioned.

Ultimately, I fully expect that next Wednesday morning will have me standing toe to toe with the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat so by the early afternoon on August 13th, you can expect to find information about the “next ultimate performance vehicle” from Dodge – regardless of what this mystery vehicle might be. Whether it is a 707hp sedan or something else, you will find coverage of the big debut right here on TorqueNews.com.
