Good News for 2022 Toyota Tacoma Buyers

More possibilities await those people having trouble finding a specific Toyota Tacoma.

This has been a challenging year for people in the market for a midsize truck. Especially Toyota Tacoma.

With the vehicle shortage drastically limiting the production of Toyota trucks, it is more difficult than ever to find the perfect Tacoma.

Hard to find Toyota Tacoma

One of the most difficult vehicles to find anywhere in the country is a 2021 Tacoma TRD Pro in Lunar Rock. Same goes for Lunar Rock Tundra, Sequoia and 4Runner.

Many people have given deposits for a pre-ordered 2021 Tacoma TRD Pro and have been waiting for months and months. At this point, since production for 2021 Tacoma is finished, those people not receiving theirs yet will miss out.

The question now is what to do next. What should you do if you really have your heart set on a Toyota Tacoma in Lunar Rock?

Well, luckily for 2022 there is new hope. Not quite like “Star Wars: A New Nope” but close.

2022 Toyota Tacoma

Lunar Rock is now available in multiple trim levels across the 2022 Toyota Tacoma board.

Potential buyers can find Lunar Rock in 2022 Tacoma TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, SR5 and Trail Edition.

A possible solution for those missing out on Lunar Rock Tacoma TRD Pro could be to switch to a 2022 Tacoma in other trim levels.

Both 2022 Tacoma Trail and TRD Off-Road now have locking rear differential, so a Lunar Rock in those trims could make sense for off-roading enthusiasts. Tacoma TRD Off-Road also comes standard with multi-terrain select and crawl control like a TRD Pro.

2022 Tacoma TRD Sport

Tacoma TRD Sport is a nice on-road alternative that could make sense. I filmed and uploaded a video for my “ToyotaJeff Reviews” YouTube channel this week on TRD Sport.

I must say, Lunar Rock looks sharp in this trim level.

Feel free to subscribe to my channel for the latest in vehicle reviews, how-to videos, and trim level comparisons.

2022 Tacoma Electric Lime Metallic

If you still want a Tacoma TRD Pro and did not get your Lunar Rock first choice, you could also switch to a 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro in Electric Lime Metallic. This is the exclusive color for 2022 Tacoma TRD Pro.

Toyota frame coatings are still a joke! I bought a 2021 Tacoma sr in November of 2020 I live in NE Pa. The road salt has started to surface rust the frame and shock absorber bolts by may 2021. I have very little faith in anything toyota makes.

There truly is no good news until the Raco gets a refresh. Paint colors are not going to do it. Tacos are great and as the leader of the pack they need to act like it by packing more punch and continuing to leave the some what competitors chasing as usual.

For all the butt kissing editors do for the Gladiator and Ridgeline they still in the sales department and yet they are touted as a better mid-size than the Taco and yet are still out sold.

Yota, don't let complacency bite you in the butt.

I bought the first of the new gen in '16 and the color choice was awful. 3 different drab greys, the usual black and white, an orange destined to languish on dealer lots. All I wanted was a bright red or a gray-green or gray-blue. No luck.

Is it too much to ask for bright red?

Jeff, I did want a new Tacoma but unfortunately, 2022 Toyota Tacoma's are #1 in customer dissatisfaction as dealerships are not taking orders and if they do they're going for 10-15K over the Tayota.com site where you build a truck! Is this why Toyota small trucks have dropped to #5 in rating or is it because they do not offer all the bells and whistles of the Ridgeline, Colorado, Frontier and Ranger? Perhaps, Toyota creating a false sense of supply and demand because they lost so many contracts with rental car companies and are now trying to gouge the average customer? It's sad I have been a loyal Toyota customer for over 35 years but I think it may be time to jump ship.

Tacomas are having plenty of problems but you can't compare them to the competition. Ridgeline is unibody with a small bed, fine for suburbanites quick trip to Lowes. Colorado has awful quality control and resale - maybe you read about their recent problem with "Chevy shake," GM has no idea what causes it or how to fix it and are buying the vehicles back. If you think the Frontier isn't butt-ugly, be my guest, and the Ranger? No extra charge for Ford engineering screw-ups.

Tacomas are still the best in reliability and resale value. The fiercest complaints from searchers will be quieted as soon as their truck arrives.
