High-Performance Maserati Levante Could Be In The Cards

The Maserati Levante is already a potent crossover. The higher-output 3.0L twin-turbo V6 pumps 424 horsepower and hits 60 mph in 5.2 seconds. But for some, that isn't enough.

Speaking with Auto Express, Giulio Pastore, general manager of Maserati Europe hinted that there could be an even faster Levante.

“That is something we could potentially study. It would have to be justified. But we have the Quattroporte (523bhp V8) engine,” said Pastore.

That 523 horsepower V8 is a 3.8L BiTurbo and features 524 pound-feet of torque. This engine could be dropped into the Levante and possibly drop the run to 60 mph in under five seconds. But don't get your hopes up this will happen immediately.

“The global market for SUVs beyond 500bhp is tiny – only around 12,500. So we would have to look at how much we put in and what we can get out. But it is good to have something in your pocket to show what you can do,” said Maserati's marketing boss Alberto Cavaggioni.

So if Maserati was to do something like this, it would likely happen down the road.
