Subaru BRZ Sells Out Early - The New-Generation 2022 Sports Car Is Late

Subaru stopped production last year and is now sold out of the first-generation BRZ sports coupe. See when customers can buy the all-new next-generation 2022 BRZ.

Subaru of America reported zero sales of the 2020 BRZ sports coupe last month. It's not for lack of interest from customers; it's because of production delays for the all-new models. The previous-generation 2020 models are sold out.

Subaru Corporation stopped producing the 2020 BRZ in July 2020, and they didn't make a 2021 model year. Subaru said BRZ orders would end on July 20, 2020.

The all-new-next-generation 2022 BRZ is coming, but it's going to be a wait as customers won't see the new sports coupe until this fall before they arrive at Subaru showrooms.

The second-generation BRZ should have been ready this summer, but Subaru pushed production back because of plant closures in Gunma, Japan, where the BRZ and Toyota GR86 are manufactured.

Dominick Infante, Director of Communications, Subaru of America, told the Courier Post, "We stopped production of the BRZ several months ago in anticipation of production of the new 2022 model, so we have sold out of them."

Customers will have to wait until fall to get their hands on the 2022 BRZ, and when it arrives, the snow will be falling in some regions where Subaru sells the most vehicles.

But Subaru is gaining traction in warm-weather states and expects the newly remodeled BRZ to do well. Subaru is gaining market share in Texas and Florida, where Subaru has struggled to sell its all-wheel-drive models. But that is changing.

What is the price of the 2022 Subaru BRZ?

The new 2022 Subaru BRZ Premium trim with a 6-speed manual gearbox has a starting price of $28,955. BRZ Premium with an automatic transmission starts at $30,555. The Limited (6-speed manual) has a starting MSRP of $31,455. The Limited with an automatic transmission starts at $33,255. All pricing includes destination and delivery fees.

The BRZ will go on sale early fall of 2021 and comes with new performance upgrades. Torque News will bring more information when models arrive at U.S. showrooms.
