Toyota Fuel Pump Recall
The recall affects nearly 2 million Toyota and Lexus brand vehicles, nearly as many as the company sells in America in a year. The models included in this huge recall are as follows:
2013-2015 Model Year Lexus LS 460;
2013-2014 Model Year Lexus GS 350;
2014 Model Year Toyota FJ Cruiser, Lexus IS-F;
2014-2015 Model Year Toyota 4Runner, Land Cruiser; Lexus GX 460, IS 350, LX 570;

Check Your Vehicle For the Recall Here
If you want to check your specific vehicle to see if it is included in the recall, simply input your vehicle identification number (VIN) here. Toyota will reach out to you by snail mail to alert you if they can find you. That is all automakers are required to do by law. Toyota says that some owners won't be notified until as late as May. Why wait? This is a problem Toyota says can, "...result in a vehicle stall, and the vehicle may be unable to be restarted. If a vehicle stall occurs while driving at higher speeds, this could increase the risk of a crash."

Toyota Ful Pump Recall Update and Fix
The new update is that Toyota has a fix for the problem. It's not going to be easy for Toyota or customers. This isn't just a software update or simple adjustment like many recalls. Rather, Toyota says, "For all involved vehicles, Toyota and Lexus dealers will replace the involved fuel pump with an improved one..." That sounds simple, but the fuel pump in your Toyota or Lexus lives inside your gas tank. To get at it, the mechanic may be in for a half-day's work. We checked out YourMechanic.com and found that a fuel pump replacement can take as long as four hours. So, you are not going to be waiting for this job to be completed.

Will Toyota Provide You With A Loaner Vehicle?
Toyota's update on the fuel pump recall did not mention if owners would be provided a loaner vehicle while theirs in service. We suggest phoning your Toyota or Lexus dealer to ask if a loaner will be made available.

Will This Recall Cost The Owner Money?

This is in line with our 15 years of experience with our Toyota dealer. They over estimate time in case they run into unforeseen problems and if they don’t have any problems the vehicle is done “early.” They would rather call you and say “hooray it is done early” than “sorry, we need to keep the vehicle for a few more hours”...

Was notified Jan 2020 of fuel pump recall on 2019 4Runner. Then 2 mos later told it didn't apply. A year later in Jan 2021 received another recall notice. 2-3 mos later received notice that they had the part(s). Made an appt and they said 4 hrs. Took car in for 8:30 appt. At 3 pm was told it's almost done, probably ready at 4 to 4:30 but they close at 6pm so it would be done for sure by 6pm. This is a complete cluster'job'. We'll see.

****UPDATE**** Got the 4Runner back at 5pm. Don't know how long they actually worked on it but they had it 8 1/2 hrs. No way this takes 8 hrs. They make a big deal about making an appt and it being more determinant versus drive-in. I expect better from Toyota in quality and reliability as well as service. At this point, they're no better than any other manufacturer but they are proud of their 4Runners and told me when I signed that they never give discounts on 4Runners because of the demand. The 2019 4Runner has only 10,000 miles on it in 2 years.

Thank you for your most useful, accurate and precise insightful updated description and absolute abysmal supposedly sterling silver Toyota customer experience; you should have been wearing a hidden running secret customer service cam so you could record sight unseen your entire legendary Toyota customer service experience; I would have been very interested in Toyota Corporate HQ's customer service response and feedback at the regional dealer franchise management level naturally of course; hopefully your Toyota fuel pump issue(s) are actually resolved and fully remediated and if not please do report back if its not of course.

I just had the recalled fuel pump on my 2019 Tacoma replaced yesterday. I've noticed a drop in gas mileage and noticed that my truck is more responsive when I accelerate. I haven't drove it on the freeway yet. I will update if there is a significant drop in gas mileage. I usually average about 20 to 22 mpg when driving 70-75 mph but average 25-26 mpg when driving 65 mph.

*UPDATE* After 3 weeks of driving. My truck finally runs like a truck. Before it only ran well with Chevron 89 or 91 gas. Now that gas prices has skyrocketed, it runs well on Costco gas now too. I've lost 2 to 3 mpg while driving heavy footed but when driving 65 on the highway I managed to average 25-26 mpg. I've averaged 28 mpg at one time. I've noticed after reading some of the comments, I am one of the few who is happy with the fuel pump replacement.

We just had the fuel pump recall performed on our 2019 Highlander . Cox Toyota in Burlington NC did the worked and asked that there be less than 1/4 tank of fuel in the vehicle when dropped off . I was a Certified Master Tech for more than 30 years so I understood the request for a low fuel level was justified . We left the vehicle with just under a 1/4 tank . We picked up the vehicle at the dealer after the repairs were completed and my wife said that the low fuel light is on . Sure enough they had removed what fuel was in the tank and put none back in . I usually keep a fuel can in my truck so I just put what was in it into her tank to get her home. Well this just happens to be happening when the fuel pipeline is shut down and no fuel is to be found at gas stations . After more than 35 years dealership experience I have never left a customer without fuel . I have managed shops and work as a tech in shops and have never left a customer without fuel after a fuel pump replacement, particularly if it was a warrant or recall replacement . This is a CSI index killer .Customer Satisfaction Indexing is a top priority at any dealership or repair center . Why in the hell would you leave you customer possibly stranded in your own parking lot and in front of the Service lane ??? I sure it didn't even bother them to see me pouring fuel into my wife's vehicle after they worked on it and took her fuel . When I worked at GM dealerships if a fuel pump recall was performed we had a special labor of code to add to the claim for fuel cost recovery. In other words the manufacturer would reimburse the dealer for fuel that needed to be replaced in the customer's vehicle . Evidently Toyota has no such op code or the dealer uses it but doesn't put the fuel in the customer's vehicle . Rant over . I will call the Service director as soon as they open today .

Just let the Toyota Customer service manager director that you had the most unmemorable and uncaring customer service experience in all the years of customer service care that you have ever experienced in your lifetime; forget about being the best in customer service customer care award. Let the Toyota customer service manager director what they are going to do to make it right as you are definitely are going to make, send and forward an official Toyota customer service complaint feedback response report directly forwarded to the Toyota Regional Area Manager of Customer Service Operations. Let us all know how the Toyota dealership intends to respond or not respond to your written documented Toyota Customer service complaint feedback report.

My Corolla hatchback shows up as a 2019 Toyota iM with the NHTSA, until oct 2020. Says my car was recalled in jan... Toyota said their not seeing it on their end. Nov comes and now it's showing it was issued a recall in Oct. Showing only 1 with vin search , when I search my vehicle it shows there are 6 for my model. NHTSA says makers upload data to their system and they aren't responsible. I know for a fact there was another recall it was involved in but they never said because they updated the capacity for weight inside the door well... mean while I used to get 380+ Mi from a tank of gas, now I'm lucky to get 280..... recall still hasn't been done..

So my pump was replaced on 5/25/21. I drove home about 15 miles. Later I drove 10 miles ro the store. My truck wouldn't start. It just turned over. I called the dealership and a technician walked me through a process wich got the truck started. The check engine light came on.
I drove right back to the dealer and number 2 pump was installed. Now my confidence is somewhat shattered for a while.

I had mine replaced today I dropped it off last night and at 830 am this morning g it was done. When she handed me the keys she said they have to take the back seat out to get to the pump so my car will have a mile gas smell for a day. It is bad smells like gas real bad. Is this common? I have a 2019 Camry

2019 Highlander. Took for the recall and dropped off on a Monday morning, they called with it ready by 3pm same day. Got into vehicle it smelled like it was doused in gasoline. Completely toxic. Rolled down all windows and air on full blast. Called when I got a mile down the road and told customer service that I was terrified it was leaking, couldn’t breathe, eyes burning from fumes. He stated, “oh yeah that’s normal, smell will fade after 24-48 hours. We’ve got to remove the back seat to do the replacement.” Didn’t offer cabin filter replacement, interior ionization, or to bring back to check for leak same day. Took vehicle back Tuesday they did tests for leaks none found. Got back in vehicle Tuesday afternoon, less awful smell but still completely toxic, burning nose, eyes. Everything rolled down aired out in garage. All week long we’ve left in in garage aired out. We thought the dealership spilled gas but we’ve decided we’ve got to call and request new cabin filters and ionization. They’ve ruined my new car smell. Completely disgusted not only that they’d say, oh yeah that’s normal as well as the ionization or cabin filter replacement isn’t in their script after this recall. In hindsight, I should have never driven off the lot with that intense gasoline smell and I should have demanded the representative come sit in the car when he said oh that’s normal and I should have immediately replaced the cabin air filters and ionization. Claim is still open. The smell is slowly fading but why, why should we even have to endure a gasoline drenched smell of a car when we paid 45k for it, smelled new going in and smells like gas when you leave the dealership. Definitely need a better process for the customer upon pickup. It’s toxic. Do not leave with the smell. Do not let them close out the claim. Im actually pretty nervous to drive it because do I have a faint leak they didn’t catch or do I just have a smell that will eventually fade? Planning to take back to dealership and have the cabin filters replaced and ionization performed. Praying for resolution and my new car smell to return.

I recently had my 2018 Camry fuel pump replaced and the dealer had the car a full day. I’m hoping it’s just my imagination but it appears my mileage has gotten a lot worse with the new pump - is that possible? Now if Toyota would come up with a fix for the lousy 8-speed transmission. I’ve had it in twice and they tell me that’s how the new transmission works.

In the market for a new vehicle and after 33 years of driving an Acura and a Honda, I really wanted to buy a Lexus due to the history of reliability. Don't think so after researching the Toyota and Lexus fuel pump problems and reading all of these comments. Very disappointed.

when you have a class action fuel pump replaced by manufacturer and your fuel economy takes a significant drop, don't you have to ask if the vehicle is in compliance with the EPA advertising requirement at purchase? Every new vehicle is required to state MPG highway and city in full display for consumer. If the factory modification no longer comes close to the original MPG because of manufacturer's actions, are you a victim of false advertising and the manufacturer of making false claims to EPA?

Bought a 2020 toyota yaris (actually mazda components on engine and suspension interior etc. Dealer knew nothing about this joint mazda toyota one year vehicle.

Pretty happy with the vehicle until:

1. Recall for faulty fuel pump that may cause stalling and non start issues

2. Check engine light may come on causing sensor problems

Vehicle has only 68000 miles and I fear driving the vehicle due to the above.

I spoke to toyota of san bernardino ca. maintenence and admin. Nothing , they will do nothing for me. If a lawsuit comes out pertaining to the Yaris fuel pump will I be included in the lawsuit automatically?"
