Video: 2016 Lexus GS-F vs. Cadillac CTS-V - Which is Better On Back-Road Blasts?

You may be surprised to hear that the Lexus GS-F is better than the Cadillac CTS-V at one key thing.

Why would you buy a V8-powered sedan? Why would you buy a V8 powered sedan with a supercharger? Would it be for commuting? Neither are the right choice given the ride comfort sacrifices. What about as a track day car? Neither is the best choice given that both companies offer the same drivetrains in smaller, lighter coupes for a bit less money.

Face facts, midsized sedans with monster engines and ultra-low profile tires with summer rubber are about back-roads blasts through the countryside. At speeds that will get you ticketed if unlucky, but probably not arrested. For that mission, the rougher ride you endure during every other on-road mile is worth it. The practicality of being able to use the car in normal life is worth the small tradeoff in track performance and enjoyment. Grand touring is what powerful sedans do best. And Lexus beats Cadillac at that according to this new video by Motor Trend.

The Cadillac is better on the track. Yes, 640 hp beats 467. Shocker. The Cadillac also has better looks According to the Motor Trend staffers. However, the reviewers compare the steering feel of the Lexus GS-F to a Ferrari (and the Caddy to an Aston Martin). In normal driving, they also like the Lexus better because it has the better ride.

Regardless of how you feel about the two cars, both are worthy of respect. Please watch the video and also check out Motor Trend On-Line. You might be surprised to hear how well the Lexus does on perhaps the most important mission these cars can complete.
