2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray left off Automobile Mag’s All-Star list – for good reason

How could Automobile Magazine leave this Corvette off its list of favorite cars that were new for 2014? Here's their excuse.

The 2014 Corvette Stingray is such an amazing vehicle that it is hard to comprehend how it could not top any list of important new vehicles launched for this model year. We were particularly outraged to see that in one of our favorite publications, Automobile Magazine, it was not one of the “All-Stars” for 2014. Our respect for Jean Jennings, the person in charge at Automobile, will never be diminished for any reason, but we were shocked.

Here is how Automobile’s annual All-Star list is created. “Every year, the Automobile Magazine editorial staff canvasses the complete range of passenger vehicles on sale in America and casts votes for ten All-Star winners. There are no contorted rules, no categories—they’re just our favorite vehicles.” Does this mean that the folks at Michigan-based Automobile don’t love the new Corvette Stingray?

It isn’t like the 2014 Corvette Stingray is just a headlight update either. All new, all aluminum chassis, all-new manual transmission with rev-matching downshifts, the Z06, the convertible, the new 8-speed manual. The 2014 Corvette Stingray is the gift that keeps on giving. Chevy is pushing the car hard too. At a press gathering last fall at a race track in New York we attended Chevy brought not just a cadre of engineers and product managers to see how the press liked the ‘Vette, but Mark Reuss, then President of General Motors North America, came too. That is commitment.

Reading this article I see… Oh, wait a minute. It says right here “If you were wondering why the ‘Vette isn’t with us, it’s because the reigning Automobile of the Year is not eligible to be an All-Star. It sits above all of them.” Never mind.
