Car and Driver Top 10 Cars for 2011: Japanese, Korean and U.S

Car and Driver magazine has released its list of the Top 10 Cars for 2010. Three American, three German, one Korean, and three Japanese brands have won the magazine’s highest honor, which is a diverse group. Is it a perfect list? No, but it does have some awfully strong choices on there.

This is the 29th annual 10Best Competition for Car and Driver. “Our 10Best award celebrates the best cars on sale in America for less than $80,000,” said Car and Driver VP/editor-in-chief, Eddie Alterman in a news release. “In our testing, we are looking for those automobiles that deliver spectacular value, real driver engagement and the highest fulfillment of their intended missions."

As in past years, all cars must be on sale by January 2011, which is how the Volt sneaks in there. It's wrong, though, that a car only being sold in some parts of the country (six states) can be considered for a car of the year competition. Only models sold throughout a majority of the country should be eligible.

  • Cadillac CTS-V
  • Chevrolet Volt
  • Ford Mustang GT
  • Honda Accord
  • Honda Fit
  • Hyundai Sonata
  • Mazda MX-5 Miata
  • Porsche Boxster/Cayman
  • Volkswagen Golf/GTI

Eliminating Toyota - given my experience with the Recall King - tends to make the choices credible, and I'm glad to see rear wheel drive models makin' the list. As one of Toyota's many dissatisfied customers, I've been blogging about 'em for quite some time at http://www.uc2.blogspot.com
