2015 Ford Mustang Fans and Buyers Love Red and Black

Ford Motor Company has run the numbers for the 2015 Ford Mustang sales and inquiries for the US, Europe and China, with red being the most popular overall around the world followed by black – with each region also having a uniquely popular hue.

The Ford Mustang is one of the most iconic cars in the history of the automotive – both in the US and around the world – and although Ford’s famed pony car has come in a long list of very recognizable colors, there is just something that seems so natural about a bright red Mustang. Not surprisingly, early interest in the 2015 Ford Mustang in the three key markets shows favor for red, with both Europe and China making Race Red their most popular exterior color option while American buyers have made Ruby Red the third most popular color. Each country also showed heavy interest in black, but in the list of the top three colors for the 2015 Ford Mustang, each area had a color group that we aren’t as popular elsewhere.

It should be noted that for the color popularity lists below, figures for the United States and China are best on actual orders, but the European numbers are based on the colors picked by Europeans playing around with the configurator tool on Ford.com. The 2015 Mustang isn’t on sale in Europe, but the order banks opened a month ago and during that time, more than 1.1 million people have configured a new pony car online.

Europe and China Share Passion for Red
When Ford looked at the configurator tool percentages for Europe and sales numbers for China, the most popular color for the 2015 Ford Mustang is Race Red. 35% of Chinese Mustang orders are for the bright red hue while 20% of European window-shoppers have picked Race Red as well. While no specific numbers have been announced, Ford explains that Ruby Red – a darker, metallic shade – is the third most popular color option in the US, making a red shade 1st, 1st and 3rd among these key markets.

Black Ranks a Close Second
There is a good chance that Ford will sell more 2015 Mustangs in the United States than they will in any other market, so after the first model year, there is a chance that black could be the most popular color for the new Mustang. Among American 2015 Mustang orders, Black is the most popular exterior color and in Europe, Black was actually tied for 1st with Race Red, with 20% of the 1.1 million European Mustang fans picking Absolute Black. The same Black that ranks 1st in the US is 3rd among those Chinese buyers who ordered a new Mustang, showing up on just under 20% of the orders.

Unique, Popular Colors in Each Market
While Mustang buyers and fans in the US, Europe and China all love red and black, each market also has a popular color that we don’t see on the other two lists. What surprises me the most is that in the United States, where the 2015 Mustang is offered in so many bright, beautiful colors, Magnetic Metallic (metallic dark grey) is the 2nd most popular option. In Europe, Deep Impact Blue is the 3rd most popular color overall, but in some European markets, this dark metallic blue is the 2nd most popular exterior color choice. Finally, Chinese buyers picked Oxford White on 20% of orders, allowing it to rank 2nd behind Race Red.

Bought my ecoboost in competition orange. The black wheels just set it off. Wouldn't have it in any other color
