Today is also the anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Foreign Affairs (now called the State Department) which is currently headed by some old lady that cackles and is very obviously off her nut. She replaced some prissy-faced lady with weird freckles and an obvious Napoleon complex.

GM investing $850M in Canadian R&D

General Motors is investing $850 million (Canadian, so it's like fifty bucks American I think, but I'll double-check the exchange) in research and development of light-weighting materials, mechatronics, software and communications. Canada's Prime Minister whassname was on hand to take credit for the move.

Research says policies and subisides for plug-ins wrong

A new paper from researcher professors at Carnegie Mellon University, Arizona State University, and an engineer at the RAND Corporation says that subsidies and policies targeting plug-ins with small battery packs would produce more benefits at lower cost. Benefits per dollar spent are higher for cars with smaller batteries than they are for PHEVs and BEVs.

The latest numbers are in and according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the most American-made car for 2012 is the Toyota Avalon. Although that grabbed headlines, it was only one model. What about the industry as a whole?
