Ending the constant speculation, Audi late last week confirmed that the two-door TT lineup will be phased out next year. That was the bad news, the good news, though, was that the automaker is already planning a replacement performance electric, though, it may not have the TT's iconic shape. Its lead luxury brand Audi plans on electrifying or eliminating some of its iconic signature vehicles way sooner, and in doing so, it’ll send a shakeup message to the luxury car market that electric cars are now the new marque to be judged.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety honored Audi's 2019 A6 with its highest award, the Top Safety Pick+ due to the headlights used on the sedan. The Q8, tested at the same time, didn't fare as well because the model did not use the same headlights as the upline sedan -- the better headlights are available on the Premium Plus and Prestige models, not the base A6.

Audi has recalled nearly 75,000 vehicles to repair a possible fire risk. The vehicles reportedly have poorly welded fuel reails and it is possible that over time the end caps might fill with gasoline. The only telltale is a vague odor of gasoline. Owners may have already received their notifications, if not, all owners will be notified by the end of the month.

Here's an interesting tidbit: as you may suspect, automakers like to tease their special models. It's a way of hooking gearheads with the new iron well before the official release of the vehicle. That's exactly the way Audi has been handling the release of its EV E-Tron GT.

Once again, the Dieselgate scandal reared its smoking head as VW was hit with another near-billion-euro fine in Germany. Though it is nearly over in the U.S., the emissions scandal is alive, well, and living in Europe where at least three jurisdictions are studying more fines. So, Audi announces the pricing for its Q8, five-door coupe and I have to scratch my chin: what exactly is a coupe? Doesn't Audi sell several coupe models such as the two-door TT? So, if it sells real coupes, how can it call a five-door crossover a coupe? It's a strange one, I'll admit.

Don't lament Audi's goodbye to manual transmission. Here is why it's good for you in the age of practicality.
By Al Castro on August 21, 2018 - 1:07PM
We have no one to blame for the destruction of the manual transmission except for the few of us that were gifted to know how to use it. If we only knew how few of us existed, maybe we could have coordinated consumer demand to prevent the inevitable from happening. Electrics would have sealed their fate anyway.

After checking the numbers, it is official: the Audi A4 won't be offered with a manual transmission in 2019. Indeed, if you look at the numbers that show fewer than five percent of vehicles are delivered with manuals, then you can probably conclude that the manual will soon be extinct at Audi.

At one time about 750 years ago, a bunch of guys called alchemists tried to turn lead into gold. That they didn't know anything about periodic tables and metals related to lead didn't deter them as they were convinced they could do it.
