Ending the constant speculation, Audi late last week confirmed that the two-door TT lineup will be phased out next year. That was the bad news, the good news, though, was that the automaker is already planning a replacement performance electric, though, it may not have the TT's iconic shape. It could be, one rumor says, a fastback.

Off to the Electric Chair! Unlike other legacy car companies with their so called 5 and 10 year plans toward electrification, this is how I know VW Group is pretty damn serious about meaning what it says about an electric future. Its lead luxury brand Audi plans on electrifying or eliminating some of its iconic signature vehicles way sooner, and in doing so, it’ll send a shakeup message to the luxury car market that electric cars are now the new marque to be judged.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety honored Audi's 2019 A6 with its highest award, the Top Safety Pick+ due to the headlights used on the sedan. The Q8, tested at the same time, didn't fare as well because the model did not use the same headlights as the upline sedan -- the better headlights are available on the Premium Plus and Prestige models, not the base A6.

Audi used this year's Geneva International Motor Show to unveil its e-tron Sportback model. At the time of the introduction, the automaker indicated there were at least three other EVs headed for market in the next year.

Audi has recalled nearly 75,000 vehicles to repair a possible fire risk. The vehicles reportedly have poorly welded fuel reails and it is possible that over time the end caps might fill with gasoline. The only telltale is a vague odor of gasoline. Owners may have already received their notifications, if not, all owners will be notified by the end of the month.

In a week when Volkswagen had many vehicles recalled for various reasons, Audi also recalled a number of A6 and A7 models to prevent possible fires. An electrical connector that runs very hot and presents the threat of fires were the subject of the recall.

With the old year rapidly running out the clock and the new year waiting in the wings for its turn on the calendar, it's time to make predictions. Here's one that is pretty clear, by 2025 there will be at least nine electric SUVs on the market. They come from across the automotive spectrum from established companies to startups.

Audi, which has produced some very interesting variants on its existing models, most notably the "S" series of sport vehicles, has no plans to build a second-gen Audi S1. According to a spokesman, there are many reasons for the move.

With the L.A. Auto Show set to begin next week, another automaker has announced it will introduce a new model. Audi will intro its e-tron SUV when the show kicks off in a little over a week.

Here's an interesting tidbit: as you may suspect, automakers like to tease their special models. It's a way of hooking gearheads with the new iron well before the official release of the vehicle. That's exactly the way Audi has been handling the release of its EV E-Tron GT.

Once again, the Dieselgate scandal reared its smoking head as VW was hit with another near-billion-euro fine in Germany. Though it is nearly over in the U.S., the emissions scandal is alive, well, and living in Europe where at least three jurisdictions are studying more fines. Plus, VW faces a near-$10 billion euro stockholders suit.

Audi has announced the recall of 1,916 R8 Coupe and Spyder supercars to fix a potential fire problem. Because of problems with the transmission vent hose, it is possible that transmission fluid can leak out and fall on the hot engine, potentially causing a fire.

Long considered somehow beyond the reach of the Dieselgate scandal, German prosecutors some months ago jailed now former Audi chief Rupert Stadler.

2013 was only a few years ago, a long time for most, lightning fast time in the electric car universe, and after all the talk, the drafts, the drawings, the concepts, the rumors, the prototypes, and camouflaged pre-production vehicles since, Audi finally presents its first full electric car. With a price point of about $80,000 USD, the Audi e-Tron Quattro aims to take its throne as a heralded German electric, while finally taking on the American Teslas.

So, Audi announces the pricing for its Q8, five-door coupe and I have to scratch my chin: what exactly is a coupe? Doesn't Audi sell several coupe models such as the two-door TT? So, if it sells real coupes, how can it call a five-door crossover a coupe? It's a strange one, I'll admit.

This week's Pebble Beach Automotive Show had lots of interesting iron available both new and old. One of the more interesting models was Audi's PB18 electric. Made for ontrack moves as well as daily errands, the PB18 features a unique driver's seat. Read on and see.

Don't lament Audi's goodbye to manual transmission. Here is why it's good for you in the age of practicality.
By Al Castro on
We have no one to blame for the destruction of the manual transmission except for the few of us that were gifted to know how to use it. If we only knew how few of us existed, maybe we could have coordinated consumer demand to prevent the inevitable from happening. Electrics would have sealed their fate anyway.

After checking the numbers, it is official: the Audi A4 won't be offered with a manual transmission in 2019. Indeed, if you look at the numbers that show fewer than five percent of vehicles are delivered with manuals, then you can probably conclude that the manual will soon be extinct at Audi.

As it stands now, tuners are having a field day with VW products. Just last week, a tuner proved he could upgrade the Audi S5 and make it more powerful. Now, another tuning firm has decided to tune the Atlas SUV. The results are incredible as the engine turns out 350 hourspower and 350 pounds-feet of torque. The former torque figure from a curren SUV is 235 pounds-feet of power.

At one time about 750 years ago, a bunch of guys called alchemists tried to turn lead into gold. That they didn't know anything about periodic tables and metals related to lead didn't deter them as they were convinced they could do it. It's too bad they didn't know, they would have saved lots of time. Today's conversions in the auto world work a lot better as this Tesla-Audi Swap. Read On.

With Audi's new Q3 creating quite a stir, there's a new report that a new RS model of the Q3 is in the planning stage and should be delivered sometime in the 2019 sales year.

For one reason or another, Volkswagen has continued to sell very strongly into the intermediate crossover segment. This segment has been redhot and VW has sought to have models that sell into it quite well. The Atlas and the so-called "Long Tiguan" have fulfilled this roll. The other item that has Audi managers happy is the 105th straight month of sales records for VW's luxury division.

When the 20th Anniversary Audi TT goes on sale, it will be a limited edition by default as the automaker is only producing 999 copies of the specialized model for customers.
