Time Running Out to Buy 2021 Toyota Tundra: 2022 Tundra on the Way

Production for 2021 Tundra trucks is winding down. Here what things will look like before 2022 Tundra gets here.

This is typically the time of year when dealerships prepare to start receiving new model year inventory from manufacturers.

In preparation, dealers also plan on selling off their remaining inventory from the current model year.

It is a fascinating cycle in the car business. Goodbye 2021 and hello 2022.

Toyota Tundra, however, is a little bit unique.

Most people outside of those “in the know” at Toyota have only an estimated time frame when we might start seeing our first all-new 2022 Tundra trucks. But we (including me) really do not know.

I find this peculiar, especially since this is July already.

If you have a marketing or advertising background, you may find Toyota’s next-gen Tundra launch quite interesting.

The 2022 Toyota Tundra will have a brand-new powertrain, most likely a twin-turbo V6. It will produce more horsepower, torque, towing capacity and miles per gallon than ever before. Plus we will see a 2022 Tundra Hybrid for the first time ever.

This is all very exciting, right? Well, Toyota is choosing to reveal tidbits and small pieces of information on Tundra one morsel at a time.

Toyota Tundra fans and owners are practically begging for a big reveal all at once. Sorry fans, but this will not happen for some time longer. Patience comes to those who wait, maybe?

2021 Toyota Tundra inventory

Every year, there seems to be a time window where current inventory has decreased, and new inventory is not quite at dealerships yet. This leaves cupboards sometimes rather bare.

For Toyota Tundra, there may end up being a large window of, frankly, not much at all.

With the ongoing vehicle shortage due to “not enough computer chips” and record consumer demand, most dealerships already have little to no Tundra trucks on their lots.

Most Toyota trucks must be pre-ordered ahead of time.

Here is where the plot thickens even more.

Toyota Tundra low inventory

August should be the last month for dealerships to place their orders for 2021 Tundra trucks. This includes customer special orders.

The all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra is expected to reach dealers by end of year, but as I mentioned earlier, people have no clue when exactly to expect them.

My guess is November to December for retail sale, but I am not in the loop on this one. This is just logical reasoning on my part.

So, I feel we will have a gap of two to three months of seeing little to no Tundra trucks across the country.

Practically nothing. Maybe “nothing” nothing.

Hi, I just purchased a new 2020 f150 last year, but I am really excited about the new tundra. I really like the current tundra better than my f150 and would trade into one now if the prices weren't crazy. I'm sure it will be 2023 before everything gets back close to normal. So I will have to wait till then to finally get in a tundra. Thanks for all you do. Hollaaaa
