New 2021 Toyota Camry Safety Upgrades Will Save Lives

2021 Camry is not the only popular Toyota model now equipped with these brand-new safety upgrades. Guess what others have it?

A new package of safety systems can now be found on all 2021 Camry and Camry Hybrid vehicles.

The latest version of Toyota Safety Sense is now being introduced on some 2021 Toyota models. This newest edition is called Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ (TSS 2.5+).

You will find this new evolution of Toyota Safety Sense on 2021 Camry, 2021 Camry Hybrid, 2021 Highlander and 2021 C-HR. I am sure it will gradually phase into other popular models as well in the near future.

But what does it do and how can it help you and your vehicle?

In addition to safety features found in Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, TSS 2.5+ offers additional safety for people and their vehicles in specific situations.

For the first scenario, imagine you are stopped at an intersection in the left turn lane, waiting to turn left.

This new system may detect other vehicles and pedestrians in your path as you are preparing to turn left. It can provide audio and visual alerts and may provide automatic braking to prevent you from hitting them.

The 2021 Toyota Highlander has this feature standard on all its trim levels as well.

2021 Highlander emergency steering assist

The next scenario assists drivers using pre-collision system and lane departure assist, and can be found on 2021 Toyota Camry and Camry Hybrid, as well as Toyota Highlander and C-HR.

It involves your emergency steering assist.

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+ is designed to control and stabilize a driver’s evasive and emergency steering maneuvers, while keeping in their lane.

This can help avoid vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians.

Normally I am sure we all are good enough drivers that we would have no problem avoiding these important obstacles. But we are talking worst-case situations where evasive maneuvers are crucial to saving lives.

2021 Camry specs and overtaking

Your dynamic radar cruise control is designed to keep your 2021 Toyota Camry Hybrid and Toyota Camry moving at a consistent speed you select yourself.

Then, it will slow you down and keep you a safe distance behind vehicles in your lane when needed. This clever system lets you take your foot off the accelerator when safe so you can rest it, especially on the highway during long road trips.

Radar cruise control has now evolved and improved with TSS 2.5+.

This next scenario should help you safety and smoothly overtake and pass slower vehicles.

Imagine you have your radar cruise set at 72 mph and are behind a slower vehicle driving 65 mph on the highway. This system automatically brings your vehicle down to 65 mph as you settle in behind them.

When you turn on your turn signal to pass and begin changing lanes by turning your steering wheel, your 2021 Highlander and 2021 Camry and Toyota C-HR provide a smooth increase in speed as you begin passing the car in front of you.

It will continue accelerating until it reaches the 72-mph speed you have it set for.

This is one feature I look forward to testing on my own to see how it works in real-time. You will find a video demonstration soon on my YouTube channel. Promise.

2021 Toyota Highlander rear seat reminder

This is an important safety feature that will help remind you of important things you may have left in your back seat as you leave your 2021 Camry and 2021 Toyota Highlander (including new Highlander XSE).

You know, important things like backpacks, computer bags, pets and even children. Yikes.

The system remembers if a rear door was opened within 10 minutes of your 2021 Camry Hybrid being turned on, and also at any point while the vehicle is turned on and started.

You will get a visual message along with audio reminder alerts that you may have left something of importance behind.

We have all seen and read news reports of the worst happening when someone gets distracted and forgets they left a child or pet in a hot back seat.

If this new 2021 Toyota Highlander (and 2021 Camry and Camry Hybrid) safety feature saves even one pet or child, it will be worth it. So scary.

2021 Camry Hybrid Toyota Safety Sense

There are many other safety components of TSS 2.5+ that were established with original Toyota Safety Sense and Toyota Safety Sense 2.0.

Look for pre-collision system that can detect people in daylight and lower lighting (at night) and bicyclists during the day. Also, dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist and automatic high beams help drivers see better and avoid accidents.

In fact, they help avoid front collisions, side collisions and assist with nighttime driving.

Other standard safety features include lane tracing assist and road sign assist.

Hi Jeff, Great article. These safety features are impressive. My wife and I own a 2011 Sienna. Solid vehicle and great people mover. I consider myself a good driver but with the change in season and the change in natural daylight it has an effect on daytime as well as night time driving. I've noticed an increase in people walking with their pets. Pedestrian detection is something I would find very helpful. Here in the area of New York where we live highway speeds are 55 mph. I will set my cruise control at 60mph. I think this provides better gas mpg but more importantly provides better reaction times for the operation of the vehicle. Some drivers in the Tri State are crazy. Yes fast driving is fun but save it for the professionals. Thanks again and drive safe.

I own the 2021 RAV4 Prime XSE Premium in Dallas TX.... Can the Toyota Safety Sense 2.0+ be upgraded to the TSS 2.5+ ??? If not.. why and why wouldn’t Toyota do safety software upgrades if the vehicle has the all the proper hardware?

My thoughts exactly as per Jason. Why would they not include it in the Prime as well the all new 2021 Venza. I just walked away from the new Venza deal when I found it it had last years tech. For me, it made difference and the dealer lost the sale.
