New 2012 Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline rocks out 27-mpg with 305 horsepower

The new Challenger will be in showrooms this April at a suggested price of $29,670, and was revealed last Friday at the seventh annual Spring Festival of LXs, with over 1,000 Dodge Chargers, Dodge Challengers, Dodge Magnums and Chrysler 300s registered in North America.

The event has evolved into the largest gathering of Dodge and Chrysler rear-wheel-drive performance cars in existence and, thus, was the perfect place to debut the 2012 Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline with its efficient new engine, paddle shifter transmission and a pumped up performance suspension over a 50/50 weight distribution.

Based on the 2012 Dodge Challenger SXT Plus, the new Challenger Rallye Redline special edition plays to the outlaw look and attitude bringing fresh bad-boy style to the iconic car.

The hood, roof and rear deck of the Rallye Redline proudly display the tachometer red rally striping across its centerline. Twenty-inch Pitch Black wheels fill the wells, with a Redline lip and inner drum providing the look of a born hellraiser.

Wide P245/45R20 Firestone Firehawk all-season performance tires ensure close contact with the road while a lower sidewall profile provides precise steering and cutting-edge handling.

The 2012 Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline has optional heated front performance Radar Red leather seats, or can be fitted with Dark Slate Gray leather over the roomy seating for five.

With four colors to choose from, including Bright Silver Metallic, Tungsten Metallic, Bright White and Pitch Black. We’re absolutely certain Riddick would go with Pitch Black (wordplay intended).

The power plant is a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine with cold-air induction and dual exhausts running from the headers to the outlets allowing maximum output. With 268 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,800 rpm, torque exceeds 90 percent peak value from 1,800 to 6,400 rpm, resulting in exhilarating performance and responsiveness. The enginesall-aluminum design creates a 52.4 / 47.6 front-to-rear weight distribution for superior balance and handling.

The five-speed Auto Stick transmission features die-cast zinc paddle shifters, while for improved acceleration, the 2012 Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline has replaced the 2.65:1 rear-axle ratio with a more responsive 3.06:1 unit.

• Wider 20 x 8.0-inch (compared to 18 x 7.5-inch) wheels with wider P245/45R20 all-season performance tires.

Since the 2012 Dodge Challenger Rallye Redline is built to go faster, it only follows it should be able to stop faster. Up front, you’ll find dual-piston front calipers replace single-piston units and larger 13.6 x 1.26-inch vented rotors replace 12.6 x 1.1-inch units. In back, 12.6 x 0.87-inch vented rotors replace 12.6 x 0.4-inch solid rotors – a distinct enhancement.
