GMC Drives the Luxury Market to New Heights with 2019 GMC Sierra Denali

GMC claims to have created the premium truck market and it intends to set the bar even higher with the 2019 GMC Sierra Denali. The truck will have new luxury features and a segment leading tailgate.

GMC intends to set a new bar for truck luxury with the 2019 GMC Sierra Denali. According to GMC, the next generation Sierra Denali will once again redefine the premium pickup, with the label Denali denoting the top-of-the line in trim and design. The 2019 Sierra Denali and SLT were both unveiled in Detroit.

Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global GMC said in a statement, “GMC ignited the premium truck segment 17 years ago with the original launch of the Sierra Denali. The next generation 2019 Sierra Denali establishes a new benchmark in capability and refinement. It exemplifies precision in every detail.”

GMC is once again trying to differentiate the design of the new 2019 GMC Sierra from its sibling, the Chevrolet Silverado. The new Sierra is a few inches larger in every dimension with bolder design cues.

The New Tailgate is the Star

The big talk about the new truck is all about the special tailgate. It is called the MultiPro Tailgate and it has six unique functions and positions, giving the driver easier access to the truck bed, as well as a standing workstation. The new MultiPro Tailgate also includes a step and an assist handle to help make it easier to get in and out of the truck bed. The tailgate will support up to 375 pounds making it possible for the driver to stand or sit on the tailgate. It should also make loading cargo easier because cargo can be temporarily stationed on the tailgate.

Carbon Fiber for the Pickup Bed

Some of the new pickups will be available with an all-new Carbon Fiber Pickup Box called the CarbonPro. Carbon fiber is typically used in race cars to make parts lighter but more durable. All of the truck companies are trying to make their vehicles lighter to improve fuel efficiency, but still durable. Carbon fiber also resists corrosion, and rust is a huge complaint in the pickup segment. “In 116 years of making GMC pickup trucks, our industry-first carbon fiber box is the toughest and most durable pickup box we have ever made,” Aldred said.

New Rearview Mirror/Camera

The 2019 GMC Sierra Denali also will debut a segment leading rear camera and mirror combination. The new mirror/camera will give the driver the ability to see past passengers or cargo. The new system will also give the driver the ability to tilt or zoom the camera for even better awareness while backing up.

The 2019 GMC Sierra Denali will be available with all the other bells and whistles that denote premium vehicles as well as a new trailering system to make towing easier.

“The heritage of the GMC brand is rooted in full-size trucks, of which the Sierra is our cornerstone, with our SLT and Denali models contributing 87 percent of our total crew cab sales,” Aldred said. “The next generation Sierra caters to these unique customers who demand a premium, innovative truck that supports their professional and personal passions.”

GMC is also upgrading all of the lighting on the truck to LEDs. The running lights, fog lights, headlights and taillights will all feature the more uniform brighter displays.

According to GMC, the trucks’ new proportions allow the 2019 GMC Sierra to keep the best-in-class headroom and legroom designations.

New versions of the 6.2L and 5.3L V-8 engines will be joined by an all-new 3.0L inline-six turbo-diesel engine. The new diesel builds on GMC’s experience with Duramax turbo-diesels offered in Sierra HD and Canyon models. The 6.2L and 3.0L engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 2019 GMC Sierra Denali and SLT will go on sale this fall. No word yet on the pricing.
