2017 Volkswagen Amarok Boasts A Facelift, New Engine

Many people have been clamoring Volkswagen to bring the Amarok pickup to the U.S. Volkswagen has now introduced an updated Amarok that will only make more people wanting this truck.

We'll get to the big news first. Volkswagen has dropped a turbodiesel 3.0L V6 that will come in three states of tune; 161, 201, and 221 horsepower. The strongest tune offers 406 pound-feet of torque. There will be a six-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission. In terms of drivetrains, the Amarok will come with rear-wheel drive standard. Optional is a 4Motion system available for the manual that brings an engageable front axle or a permanent all-wheel drive version for the automatic. Other mechanical changes include a revised steering system for all models and larger front and rear disc brakes on the 221 horsepower 3.0L V6.

Volkswagen says the updated Amarok will have a maximum payload capacity of more than a ton. The max tow rating stands at 3.5 tons.

The exterior gets minor changes - a new front bumper, headlights, and larger alloy wheels.

Volkswagen says the updated Amarok will arrive sometime this fall in Europe. At launch, the most powerful engine tune will be the only option. The 161 and 201 horsepower tunes will follow sometime thereafter.
