AutoTrader Crowns 2 New Subaru Models With Best SUV Awards - One Is Best Overall

What is the best SUV you can buy this year? According to the new 2023 AutoTrader Awards, the newly-upgraded 2023 Subaru Outback is the Best Overall SUV winner over all other SUVs you can buy this year. In addition, AutoTrader also gave the 2023 Outback the best compact SUV award. Finally, the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek takes home the best subcompact SUV award this year.

AutoTrader says its jury considers every vehicle available in the country to buy to determine the top candidates in each category that they would confidently recommend to Canadians. AutoTrader also says they carefully select winners based on thoroughly testing every new vehicle available for new can and SUV shoppers this year.

Outback is the best of the best

"The Subaru Outback has won the AutoTrader Award for Best Compact SUV two years running, a testament to the strong staying power of this practical, user-friendly, and adventure-ready crossover. Regarding the criteria our judges are looking for in this segment, the Subaru Outback is tough to beat," said Jodi Lai, Editor In Chief, AutoTrader.ca.

Outback's stellar safety scores

AutoTrader also says, ”Strong safety scores from industry authorities and a long list of standard safety equipment provide peace of mind for family-minded drivers. In 2023, safety system offerings have expanded to include automatic emergency steering, lane centering assist, reverse automatic emergency braking, and a distraction mitigation system, each building on core EyeSight safety functionalities built for next-level collision prevention."

Crosstrek is the best subcompact SUV

Jodi Lai says, "The Subaru Crosstrek offers Canadian drivers a lot of value for the money in a practical and capable package. Our experts love the crossover's ease of use, its standard all-wheel drive, and the common-sense practicality that have become the brand's calling cards."

What sets the Outback and Crosstrek further apart?

AutoTrader should have mentioned the Outback and Crosstrek's all-terrain capability. The two SUVs come with X-Mode for added off-pavement abilities. The Outback Wilderness and Crosstrek Sport and other upper model trims also come with Subaru's dual-function X-Mode for deep snow, deep mud, and deep sand capabilities.

What is the U.S. price of the 2023 Subaru Outback?

The 2023 Outback now comes in nine trim levels for U.S. customers; the base trim is priced from $29,620, Premium ($31,920), new Onyx Edition with a 2.5-liter engine ($34,720), Limited ($36,520), Touring ($41,070), Outback Wilderness ($39,670), Onyx Edition XT ($39,820), Limited XT ($40,920), and Touring XT ($43,520). In addition, pricing includes $1,225 destination and delivery fees.

What is the price of the U.S. 2023 Subaru Crosstrek?

The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek now comes in six trim levels for U.S. customers. The base trim is priced from $24,870, Premium ($26,020), Special Edition ($27,970), Sport ($29,220), Limited ($30,720), and Crosstrek Hybrid ($38,070). Prices include destination and delivery fees ($1,225).

For customers who can wait, the next-generation 2024 Subaru Crosstrek arrives this spring (Base and Premium trims) and summer (Sport and Limited trims) with an all-new improved model. Check out the upgrades in the report below.
