6 Improvements Are Coming On 2017 Subaru WRX STI
The 2016 Subaru WRX S4 and WRX STI Type S in Japan get new improvements that will likely be coming to U.S. spec 2017 WRX/STI models. The Japan models are getting safety features and other enhancements to make the cabin a quieter place. What is available in Japan next month?
A quieter cabin
Inside, the 2016 Subaru WRX and WRX STI will be quieter than the previous models. The indoor-side shoulder portion weather strip of the front door glass has been improved to reduce wind noise and road noise inside the cabin. Another new noise-reducing feature has been added by changing the shape of the rear wiper blade. It’s been reshaped to be more aerodynamic and Subaru says it will reduce wind noise by 85 percent. Both enhancements should make the cabin a quitter place.
Advanced Safety Package
The WRX S4 and WRX STI get a new Advanced Safety package function. They will be available with the EyeSight Assist Monitor to notify the driver of any cars approaching from the side. It also features new Side View Monitors in the mirrors that light up if there are cars in the blind spot. The rear of the WRX S4 will come with Subaru’s Rear Vehicle Detection, notifying the driver of vehicles on either side of the vehicle approaching from the rear and sides. These safety features are already available on other Subaru models and now on the performance sedans.
High Beam Assist headlamps
For increased visibility and added safety, the Japan WRX/STI features High Beam Assist (HBA) system for the first time. HBA can automatically toggle between high and low beams depending on road conditions such as speed and oncoming traffic, enhancing visibility for the driver, and oncoming traffic will not be blinded.
These six safety and cabin enhancements will be available on the 2016 Subaru WRX S4 and WRX STI S207 performance models stating next month in Japan. Look for U.S. spec 2017 WRX/STI models to be fitted with the same upgrades.
