The 2014 Subaru WRX STI Rally Car is in final assembly at Subaru Rally Team USA headquarters in Vermont.

As David Higgins and Craig Drew prepare for the 2014 Rally season, they sit in their new 2014 WRX STI for the first time and smiles were big. The new WRX STI is being prepared now and is in its final stages of preparation for the first race coming up later this month. The team is coming off a spectacular season and their third Rally America National Championship win. Can they do it again in 2014?

The new WRX STI Rally car is built for David Higgins and Craig Drew who will pilot the performance car again this year. The brand new 2014 Subaru WRX STI Open Class Rally Car is an evolution of the 2013 platform with a focus on improved handling and durability.

The new WRX STI will debut at the Sno*Drift Rally later this month as the 2014 Rally America Championship kicks off in Atlanta, Michigan. The car will come equipped with a number of new goodies to make the rally car even better than last years model. The WRX STI is in final assembly at Subaru Rally Team USA headquarters in Vermont now and the team is getting ready.

What’s new for 2014?

The new 2014 WRX STI will feature next-generation lightweight cockpit controls. The new controls will reduce weight and be easier for the driver to use. The rear suspension will feature a new wheel scraper under the brake rotor to keep dirt and mud from building up on the rear wheels. It will also come with backlit control panels for easy operation during night stages. The 2014 Subaru rally car will feature LED lighting integrated into the rollcage padding for the first time.

The first race is coming this month, January 24-25, 2014 Atlanta, Michigan. The Sno* Drift Rally is the only race on the Rally America Championship Series that takes place in full winter conditions. The town of Atlanta in the north-east corner of Michigan can be brutal in January, but nonetheless, it will draw a big crowd. Studded snow tires are restricted for rally cars, and the drivers will need to be in top form in order to keep their cars on the course. Last year, Subaru had some major challenges to overcome just to finish the race.

It looks like David Higgins and Craig Drew are pleased with the new changes made to the 2014 Subaru WRX STI Rally Car. It will be an exciting season as the Subaru Team battles Ken Block again. Stay tuned to Torque News for the latest 2014 WRX STI Rally Car racing news.
