2 Key Attributes Has Subaru Setting New Records With Crosstrek, Outback

Sales of the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek and Outback wagon keep the brand rolling. Why are consumers responding to the two vehicles?

With many automakers reporting slow or negative growth last month, Subaru bucks the trend with two vehicles in their lineup. The all-new 2018 Subaru Crosstrek and 2018 Outback wagon are leading the charge. These two vehicles, along with the WRX/STI performance sedans were up in sales while the Forester, Impreza, Legacy, and BRZ were down. It was the best May ever for Crosstrek and Outback.

The 2018 Crosstrek received a complete makeover and consumers are responding in a big way to the crossover. Crosstrek had its best May ever, with a sales increase of 74.4 percent over the same month in 2017 and it helped SOA mark the best month ever for the Subaru brand. Outback posted a nearly 10 percent increase, while WRX/STI posted 2.1 percent increase in May.

Why are Crosstrek and Outback hot with American consumers? IHS Markit says, “Automakers with expanding utility vehicle lineups in 2018 (Volkswagen and Subaru, for example) are in a position to better offset softening car demand.” Subaru hit the right formula with these two vehicles. They both come standard with all-wheel-drive, but they also offer the utility of a crosser and they aren’t as big as many SUVs.

Crosstrek and Outback are sporty and fuel efficient

Subaru has found a niche market between sub-compact hatchbacks and the larger SUVs. They also tapped the millennial demographic of urban-adventurers who lead active lifestyles and use their vehicles for weekend excursions to the high country. Both vehicles offer 8.7-inches of ground clearance, come standard with all-wheel-drive and offer X-Mode for extreme off-road use. These key features along with their sporty attitude and fuel efficiency, make the 2018 Subaru Crosstrek and Outback wagon the brand’s top sellers in the stable.
