The 11 Most Significant Next-Gen Subaru Crosstrek Upgrades And One You Missed

Subaru of America recently uncovered the new U.S.-specification next-generation 2024 Crosstrek at the Chicago Auto Show, but one new upgrade was missing. Here are eleven of the most significant upgrades and the one new trim level that was not announced. The new Crosstrek gets upgraded power on its re-tuned engine, newly designed exterior styling, and upgraded safety and entertainment technology. Check out the complete list below.

1. A slight increase in torque

Subaru announced the Crosstrek Sport and Limited with the 2.5-liter gets a small bump in torque but not horsepower. The previous model had 182 horsepower and 176 lb. -ft. of torque. The 2024 Crosstrek now has 182 horsepower and 178 lb.-ft. of torque. It's not much, but the Crosstrek didn't need a massive increase. The 2.0-liter engine stays with 152 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque.

2. A 10-percent stiffer chassis for improved dynamic performance and ride quality

Subaru says the third-generation Crosstrek comes with 10-percent stiffer chassis for improved dynamic performance and ride quality.

A complete inner frame construction with stronger welding techniques and additional structural adhesive (from 26.2 feet to 88.5 feet) contributes to better body rigidity and less weight. According to Subaru, these updates will deliver an improved dynamic performance, smoother ride, and quieter cabin.

3. Subaru drops the Crosstrek Hybrid

Subaru discontinued the Crosstrek Hybrid trim level. It could have been faster selling for various reasons. However, new Hybrid models are coming in 2025, and you can check out the report here.

4. Subaru drops the 6-speed manual transmission

Subaru also discontinues the 6-speed manual transmission in Base and Premium trims. Subaru never offered the manual in the Sport and Limited. All four Crosstrek trim levels now come standard with CVT automatic transmission. Read the report here for the reason why the manual transmission is gone.

5. EyeSight's latest version is standard

Subaru's EyeSight driver assist technology is now standard across all trim levels. As a result, all Crosstrek trim levels will now get the highest IIHS test scores.

6. A more supportive front seat

The new Crosstrek is redesigned with a more supportive front seat design that increases overall comfort and minimizes fatigue. In addition, Subaru says a focused effort on reducing sounds within particular frequency ranges results in a quieter and more comfortable cabin.

7.11.6-inch Multimedia Plus system is available for Crosstrek

For the first time, an 11.6-inch Subaru Starlink center information display is available for Crosstrek.

8. The Crosstrek Sport trim is also equipped with a wireless phone charger in the center console, which is also a new upgrade.

9. Crosstrek production will occur in the U.S.

U.S. customers will get two Crosstrek trim levels sooner because they are now made in the U.S. factory. In addition, Crosstrek Sport and Limited will be produced in the U.S. for the first time at Subaru's plant in Lafayette, Indiana. The Base and Premium trims will still be made in Japan.

10. Aerodynamic improvements

Subaru says an air outlet at the trailing edge of the front wheel opening allows air to exit from the wheel well more freely, contributing to reduced lift on the front tires and improved driving stability. Another air outlet added at each side of the rear bumper reduces body sway due to air trapped behind the bumper.

11. Standard Rear Seat Reminder

Crosstrek now comes with a Rear Seat Reminder to help prevent child and pet entrapment by alerting the driver to check the rear seat before exiting the vehicle.

2024 Crosstrek pricing

For 2024, the Crosstrek will be available in Base, Premium, Sport, and Limited trim levels and has a starting price of $26,290 (the same MSRP as the 2023 Base model equipped with the Lineartronic CVT automatic transmission).

The 2024 Crosstrek Premium has a starting price of $27,440, Sport ($30,290), and Limited ($32,190). Pricing includes destination and delivery fees ($1,225). The Premium trim price increased by +$70, the Sport +$1,070, and Limited +$1,470.

The one significant upgrade that is missing

The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness was not in Subaru of America's announcement of the all-new next-generation Crosstrek. The more rugged Wilderness trim is coming, but customers in the U.S. will have to wait. Like the Forester Wilderness, Subaru of America delayed the outdoor-themed Crosstrek Wilderness another year. The new Crosstrek Base and Premium trim levels are available for U.S. customers this spring. The 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Sport and Limited trim levels will come later this summer.
