Check out the ten best all-wheel-drive sedans you can buy this winter, and which model would you rather drive? Here's why the 2022 Subaru WRX is the best performance car.

What are the best all-wheel-drive sedans for driving in the snow and ice? AutoGuide came up with the ten best all-wheel-drive sedans you can buy this winter if you are on a budget, and Subaru has three models on the list. The 2022 Subaru Legacy ($22,995), 2022 Subaru Impreza ($18,795) and 2022 Subaru WRX ($27,495).

The Legacy, Impreza, and WRX, on the ten best all-wheel-drive sedans on a budget list, includes some unexciting models. They are the Toyota Camry ($26,695), Nissan Altima ($26,950), Kia K5 ($26,490), Dodge Charger/Chrysler 300 ($34,725/$34,625), Mazda3 ($26,150), and Audi A3 ($35,900).

2022 Subaru WRX STI, next-generation WRX, pricing, specsyou can buy for the money. Subaru's Symmetrical all-wheel-drive was developed for the rally stages, and it's still one of the best systems for snow and ice.

AutoGuide says, "All-new for the 2022 model year, the WRX continues the rally-bred car's tradition and features a new 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four engine making 271 horsepower. It continues to be offered with either a six-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable (automatic) transmission, both of which of course power all four wheels."

What makes the Subaru WRX best in the snow?

The WRX with 6-speed manual transmission uses a viscous-coupling locking bevel-gear center differential built into the transmission case distributes torque 50:50 front-to-rear. Slippage at the front or rear wheels causes torque to transfer (up to 100 percent) to the opposite set of wheels. With manual transmissions, WRX shares this system with the Impreza, Crosstrek, and Forester.

The WRX equipped with the Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) gets a different setup. It uses an electronically managed variable transfer clutch that actively controls torque distribution in acceleration, deceleration, and cornering. It also causes torque to transfer (up to 100 percent) to the opposite set of wheels if the front or rear wheels begin to slip. WRX shares this with all Subaru models equipped with the CVT automatic.

What is the price of the 2022 Subaru WRX?

Subaru has not announced 2022 model year pricing, but the next-generation WRX will likely get a significant bump in price. The current price of the 2021 WRX is $28,420 (including destination and delivery). The 2022 WRX base model will still be less than $30,000, making it a good performance value.

When will the 2022 WRX be available in the U.S.?

Look for the all-new 2022 Subaru WRX in Subaru showrooms in early 2022. With the global microchip shortages, there are more delays.

All Subaru models hold their value well over the first five years, and the latest iSeeCars study says the Subaru WRX and WRX STI depreciate the least of all other small sports cars in their category. Check out the complete report here.
