Hyundai partners with "Gangnam Style" rapper PSY

Hyundai has launched a Facebook ad featuring the South Korean-born rapper with a Hyundai Equus.

Hyundai has partnered with South Korean rapper PSY in an effort to cash in on his insanely popular “Gangnam Style” music video. If you have yet to view “Gangnam Style” you’re in the minority, because the music video has just surpassed 215 million views on YouTube as of today.

Earlier today, Hyundai posted a picture of PSY with the Hyundai Equus luxury sedan on its Facebook page. According to Hyundai, the Equus pictured belongs to PSY. The image includes the following caption: “We caught up with K-Pop sensation PSY blowing up the Swag-o-Meter in his mega-luxe Equus. How do you roll Gangnam Style?”

The image of PSY and the Equus is accompanied by the “Equus Swag-o-Meter,” which details the varying degrees of “swag” that vehicles possess. The meter includes swervin’, tight, swagnificient and of course, Gangnam Style.

Launched in 1999, the Hyundai Equus is the largest and most expensive model in the Hyundai lineup. The Korean automaker released a rear-wheel drive platform in 2009, which aimed to contend with the Mercedes S-Class, Audi A8, Lexus LS and BMW 7 Series. Since 2012, all Equus models have contained an 8-speed automatic transmission.

Aside from its 8-speed transmission, the 2013 Equus features a new 5.0-liter V8 engine and an estimated 429 horsepower. The new Equus also touts multiple luxury features like electronically controlled air suspension and Continuous Damping Control (CDC), which monitors road conditions.

The luxury vehicle also boasts a Lexicon audio system and an i-Drive-type system similar to BMW, Cadillac and Lexus. The 2013 Equus features a base price of $60,000 and a $67,500 price tag for the up-level vehicle.

Born Park Jae-sang, PSY is a singer-songwriter, rapper, dancer and record producer. He is best-known for his humorous music videos and live performances.

Although PSY is featured next to an Equus in the new ad, the rapper drives a red Mercedes SLK 200 in his popular music video.
