Watch the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Attack the Quarter Mile (Video)

The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is reaching owners around the country so not surprisingly, we have our first video of the most track capable Corvette of all time in action on the quarter mile – with fairly impressive results.

The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is billed by General Motors as the most track capable Corvette ever and while the company is referring to all sorts of racing, we can expect to see more than a few new Z06s in action at the drag strip. The first video of a privately owned 2015 Corvette Z06 has surfaced online and while the results aren’t mind blowing, these first quarter mile numbers are pretty strong for a driver who likely hasn’t made many passes in this car.

Corvette Z06 Burnout and Drag Race
The video begins with this bright silver 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 in the water box, where the driver does a nice, heart burnout to get the tires clean and hot. The driver (who surprisingly isn’t wearing a helmet) quickly pulls to the beams and stages against what appears to be a Dodge Ram. The Z06 launch isn’t incredible, but the 650hp C7 gets away from the line in a hurry with no bog and very little wheelspin. The driver seems to do a pretty good job popping through the gears and on the big end, he lays down an 11.77 at 120.54 miles per hour.

General Motors expects that the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 coupe with the 7-speed manual transmission will run an 11.20 in the quarter mile while the new C7 Z06 with the lightning quick 8-speed automatic will lay down incredible times of 10.95. Keep in mind, those are manufacturer’s expected numbers, which are generally somewhat conservative, as the company doesn’t want to announce “official” numbers that no owners can hit in the real world.

In other words, we are bound to see some quicker quarter mile times from the 2015 Z06 over the next few weeks, but for a run by someone who likely hasn’t been driving the car for much more than a week, 11.77 is a very respectable time. A car running 11.70s will outrun pretty much anything that it comes across on the street, with only some select stock vehicles and modified cars being able to turn times like that and this guy’s run looked smooth enough that with some more seat time, he could definitely get closer to those official 11.20 times.
