EA rolls out new video of Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed featuring Tommy Milner

Electronic Arts has offered up a new demo video showing their upcoming Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed being with the Corvette C6.R making a lap around Mazda Laguna Seca while piloted by pro racer Tommy Milner.

This latest demo video features pro road racer Tommy Milner who most recently finished 3rd at Sebring in his Compuware GT2 Corvette C6.R and fittingly, Milner is behind the virtual wheel of his GT2 Corvette on the famous Mazda Laguna Seca raceway. The video jumps from the in-car gameplay footage to various camera angles that we can expect to see in the replay mode – giving a great overall look at the details of the newest Need for Speed game.

Milner ends up turning a lap time of 1:21.709, just under 2.5 seconds under the GT1 class lap record of 1:19.304 – but it is just a video game.

In case you aren’t familiar with the initial Need for Speed: Shift, that original version and Shift 2 Unleashed stray from the typical all-gas-and-no-brake Need for Speed games that have you bouncing off of oncoming traffic as you race through city streets. Shift 2 Unleashed is an on-track racing simulator that offers far more realistic driving dynamics than the games that made the Need for Speed series so popular.

I had my first chance to check out Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed at the 2010 SEMA Show thanks to the folks at EA and World Racing, and while at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show I had a chance to play a more refined version of the Shift 2. In both cases, I was impressed with the dynamics, graphics and overall gameplay and I will have the new Need for Speed the first day that it hits the market (March 29th, 2011). I love all types of racing games but as a regular Forza 3 and Gran Turismo racer, I am looking forward to Shift 2 as the gaming world doesn’t have enough simulators and Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed stands to be the next great sim racer.
