Man Drives Chevy Volt 1000 Miles on 5 Gallons of Gas

Chevy Volt's fuel economy can be amazing and its MPG on gas surprising. It all depends on how you drive your Volt.

A man, named Steve Prinsen, just posted his Chevy Volt's fuel economy achievement in Chevy Volt Owners public group on Facebook displaying Volt MPG on give gallons of gas. He drove 999.6 miles, using 4.9 gallons of gas. His effective MPG is 202 miles.

"Hi everyone, just hit my first 1000 miles in my 2014 Volt! Loving this car. Trying not to bug my ICE friends with these pics but I figured you guys would appreciate it," wrote Prinsen in the group.

He also says that when he got the car it had 10,500 miles on it and only about 60 of those 10,500 miles were electric. Oddly, whoever had the car, never seemed to have charged it. Apparently, this is typical of reports we hear about fleet vehicles. Since there are no incentive to charge, people of fleet vehicles mostly drive using gas and not charging their cars.

On the other hand, for those, who drive their Volts or plugin hybrids as their own vehicles, for them it almost becomes an obsession: one I am sure all electric car owners are familiar with by now.

What's the best MPG you have achieved with your Chevy Volt or plug in hybrid?

200mpg? No big deal. I'm at nearly 40k miles on about 34 gallons of gas lifetime.

His numbers will improve significantly if he really wants to. I drive about 12k per year now on 2 gallons per year. The reason I'm "only" getting 1000mpg is it takes a while to get into the groove.

For the last 3 years I've averaged 6000mpg in my 2913 Volt.

Hey Chevy, set me up with a fresh, free 17 Volt and I'll not repeat my early mistakes and really give you something to brag about.

My first summer with my 2012 Volt I went 5000km without using a drop of gas. Many have done significantly better. I drive about 25,000km per year and do about 75% of that on battery alone. GM shouldn't try to sell this as an electric car...they should sell it as a gas car that gets 103mpg...that's a language more people understand.

I have a 2014 Volt and have driven 29,783+ miles with a 1,297.52 mpg. I have only used just under 23 gallons of gas in 31 months of driving it. I consistently get over 50 miles per charge during the warm months in Maryland.

I've driven my 2013 Volt 30,000 miles using 30 gallons of gas in 4 years.
97% all electric. Not a single problem .. I think it's actually faster now than when new.
When I drive my ICE car now it feels like driving a model T... all the shifting .. smells... heat... noise...
all missing when driving the Volt. So much more relaxing to drive the Volt.
