Hyundai is one of two Korean brands competing in the U.S. market. The other is its corporate sibling Kia.

Imports to the U.S. started in 1986 with one model and have expanded to over 15 models today, which include hybrids, plug-in hybrids, all-electric and fuel cell electric vehicles. Today, over half of the Hyundais sold in the U.S. are American made at the Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama https://www.hmmausa.com/ facility in Montgomery, Alabama. The $1.8 billion facility can build just shy of 400,000 vehicles annually and currently produces the Hyundai Sonata and Elantra sedans and the Santa Fe SUV.

Kia, the brand’s Korean counterpart, offers a sportier lineup with its sedans. Both, though, have made great strides in offering premium materials and design at affordable prices compared to competitors.

In the past, many associated the Hyundai brand with lower build quality and cheaper prices. However, that is not the case today. Although still typically more affordable, Hyundai vehicles now have the build quality, safety, technology, and design expertise that rivals the best in the industry. Consumer Reports ranks Hyundai in the Top 5 for auto manufacturer overall reliability.

Popular models include the Elantra and Sonata (also offered in hybrid and plug-in hybrid) sedans and the Tucson and Santa Fe SUVs. An updated Santa Fe appears in the first quarter of 2021.

The Venue, Kona, and Palisade SUVs are the latest additions to the lineup. Other models include the fun-to-drive Veloster and Elantra GT, the efficient Ioniq models (hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and EV), the little Accent sedan, and the only fuel cell electric SUV on the market, the Nexo.

The 2016 Hyundai Tucson Sport is in one of the largest in most popular segments in America, but where many small SUVs fall short, the Tucson Sport shines much brighter than I could have expected – as it is fun to drive, roomy and it handles rough driving conditions very well.

After posting my first drive review of the new 2017 Hyundai Elantra sedan, we received several questions about the 5-door Elantra GT and while the GT model doesn’t join the sedan in the refresh – this sporty compact 5-door is just as good as ever.

I recently spend a week behind the wheel of the 2016 Hyundai Veloster Turbo Rally Edition and when that week was done, I had a new appreciation for a car that I really enjoyed when it was introduced in the lower performance Turbo package a few years back – while still loving the unique 3-door design of the funky little hatchback.

Imagine there was a car that offered a hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and electric powertrain. Too bad that such a car doesn't exist. That is until now.

I recently had a chance to spend a day driving the 2017 Hyundai Elantra Limited and I can say that while the new Elantra doesn’t perform all that differently from the previous models – it has gotten a little better and a little prettier with the next generation.

I recently had a chance to spend a week behind the wheel of the Hyundai Azera Limited and after my experience, I continue to wonder why more people hunting for a luxury level vehicle on a budget don’t give this large midsized sedan a closer look – as it offers all of the goodies that you get from some of the more cost effective luxury brands without the massive price tag.

The folks at Hyundai are working on the next generation Genesis Coupe and based on some reports out of Korea, the next Gen Coupe could pack some serious upgrades to help it better compete with the American muscle cars – like a twin turbocharged V6 and all-wheel drive.

At this point, chalk up another entrant into the PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) category and this one is from Hyundai. The 2015 Hyundai Genesis sedan is a beautiful machine worthy of the “luxury car” label in its most basic form, but for those prospective Genesis buyers who demand more modern technology, more standard features, improved driving dynamics and gobs more power – the 5.0L trim for the Genesis sedan is worth every single cent over the base model price.

The 2015 Hyundai Genesis sedan with the V6 engine in its most basic form comes with a price of just $38,000 and while the price isn’t why the new Genesis sedan is so impressive, that incredibly low entry level price for a car that is so well appointed inside and out makes this the best bargain in the modern midsize luxury segment.
