The 2022 Ram 1500 will come with Uconnect 5 standard. We look at three new features buyers will love.

The 2022 Ram 1500 will come standard with the Uconnect 5 system and it promises to make every day life better for Ram drivers everywhere. Uconnect 5 is not only five times faster than the Uconnect 4 system but it brings with it new features that will help Ram owners whether they are driving for work or pleasure.

The new version of the Uconnect 5 adds the ability to personalize the user screen for up to five different people. Whether you are using the truck for your family or sharing it with work colleagues, each person can set up his own profile and save it. Each driver can set their preferences for music, temperature, seating position and mirror placement. Profiles can be switched with just the touch of a button. Uconnect 5 also allows you to monitor two phones at once so both can control navigation and access vital information like the Off-Road and Performance pages. In other words, your co-pilot can monitor operations while the driver keeps his eyes on the road. The passenger can look up the nearest gas station, restaurant or campground and have it come through the Uconnect system.

“A competitive advantage of our Uconnect 5 system lies in its ability to align with customer needs using personalization and unique content for each brand,” said Mamatha Chamarthi, Head of Software Business and Product Management. “The features and user experience are tailor-made for Ram trucks and Ram commercial vehicles, and will continue to expand with the digitalization of mobility.”

New Uconnect 5 feature for 2022 Ram: Alexa Interaction

One of the most intriguing new features is the addition of Amazon Alexa home-to-truck and truck-to-home functionality. The feature also adds Alexa as a virtual assistant. The driver or passengers can ask Alexa to play music, podcasts and audiobooks. They can also ask Alexa to add items to their to-do list or check real-time information and even change the temperature in the truck. Alexa’s responses come through the vehicle’s audio system, allowing all passengers to have access to Alexa. People with highly connected or smart homes can ask Alexa to set their alarms, turn on lights even change the temperature setting all while driving. Likewise, people at home can have Alexa turn on their truck alarm. The possibilities are endless.

Over the Air Updates

The customizable home screen has tailor-made graphics, colors, themes and fonts to match the different trim levels and allows quick access to the driver’s favorite features with one-touch operation. Now, the Uconnect 5 system adds more Over the Air Updates. Uconnect 5 seamlessly loads updates, keeping the infotainment system fresh with the latest software improvements. OTA also will greatly improve servicing and updating the 2022 Ram 1500. The new Telematics Box Module (TBM) assists in quickly moving large amounts of data. Notifications work with the Vehicle Health Report, Vehicle Health Alert and Ram mobile app. For some updates, OTA capability will automatically load the improved software to the vehicle. Other services will still have to be handled at your local dealer but there is a Service Scheduling feature to streamline that process. The improvements should significantly reduce the number of times you have to return to the dealer to have flash updates installed.

Maps Over the Air

Maps Over the Air (OTA) is also a nifty new feature that automatically downloads and installs available map updates. The system will detect new maps in areas that you travel to frequently giving important updates. Another feature called Last Mile Navigation will provide walking directions from your vehicle to your final destination through the Uconnect smartphone app. Nothing more annoying than having to park a mile away and having no clue how to get to where you need to be.

These are just three of the new Uconnect 5 features that I think 2022 Ram 1500 drivers will love. There will be countless others.
