"Cost and effect are no longer in relation to Detroit. We focus on the shows in Los Angeles and New York, " said Porsche communications chief Josef Arweck.

Part of the reason comes down to Porsche having to fight with other automakers to get their fair share of time in the spotlight. Why New York and Los Angeles? We can't explain New York, but California is Porsche's most important market in the U.S.

A spokesperson for Porsche confirmed this decision to Reuters.
