Kobe Bryant Interview
In a rare video of an interview with Kobe Bryant from October 2017, he talks about his admiration for Elon Musk and what makes Elon different from everyone else. Here is what he had to say.
Elon Musk is a genius by all accounts. His commitment is incredible. Kobe asked Elon how he learns, and Elon's answer was that the amount of research and study he does is unheard of, but that the most important thing he has is his imagination. You can learn all you can from a book and other sources, but you need your imagination to take it to another level.
For those that know about Kobe Bryant, he also had an incredible work ethic and was very talented. This is a case of talent recognizing other talent.
I think some of the things that Elon Musk has studied are:
* Financial systems
* Monetary policy
* ICE and Battery Electric Vehicle technology
* Rocketry
* Human/brain interfaces
* Robotics
* Battery technology
* Software engineering
* Politics
These are just a few of the areas I think Elon Musk has studied. He also clearly understands how to run a company as the CEO of Tesla. I think one of the reasons Tesla has been successful is due to the leadership of Elon Musk, who is the driving force behind Tesla. Then, Tesla has a great team that executes on the grand vision of the company.

What Makes Elon Musk Different
Elon Musk is different and thus Tesla, the company, is different. There are things about Elon Musk that make him different and have made Tesla the success it is today. Some of these qualities are:
Elon Only Hires People Who Deeply Care About the Mission
Only people who sincerely care about the mission of Tesla are hired to work at the company. Elon only wants those who are going to be 100% committed to their work and the success of Tesla. This is one reason that Tesla is successful.
Elon Relentlessly Innovates and Demands It From His Employees
Working at Tesla would not be a stress-free environment. There is a constant pressure to innovate. Elon Musk has even said that it is a requirement for every employee at Tesla to innovate in order to keep their job. Innovation is what keeps Tesla ahead of the competition.
Elon Listens To Feedback
Elon Musk is different from most billionaire CEOs in that he listens to feedback from others. He may not respond to everyone - in fact, I have tried to get his attention numerous times, but not succeeded. But, I have seen him respond to people with millions of Twitter followers and people who have less than one hundred followers. If someone has a good thought or idea, Elon will pay attention and have dialogue with that person.
Elon Believes in Relentless Cost Cutting
Most companies are focused on advertising and driving sales for their products. It's rare to find someone who is deeply focused on cutting costs. Elon has created a culture at Tesla that says cutting costs is good. This will allow Tesla to sell their vehicles and Energy storage at reduced prices in the future.
