Wheels Tests the Legacy, Camry and Mazda6; Subaru Scores #1 in their Gold Star Value Awards

Subaru Legacy places ahead of Toyota Camry and Mazda 6 in Wheels Gold Star Value Awards. Is it just AWD that sets it apart?

The Subaru Legacy sedan doesn’t get much press, but it’s a sedan that’s hard to beat when you put it up against the mid-size sedan competition. In the December edition of Wheels, the 2017 Subaru Liberty 2.5i (Legacy in the US) places ahead of Toyota Camry and Mazda 6.

Wheels magazine says the Legacy sedan is a good long-term proposition and scores high in dependability and affordability. Wheels says: “Sometimes all the figures tell you that a car will be economical to own while experience suggests the opposite, but that’s certainly not the case with the Subaru Liberty 2.5i.

Legacy beats Camry and Mazda 6

They like it more than the Toyota Camry and Mazda 6 mid-size sedans and the Subaru Legacy beats both in their Gold Star Value Awards. They tell their readers that the Subaru sedan is among the least expensive in its class, yet it comes with more features than most rivals, including all-wheel drive.

The Subaru Liberty (Legacy) has a reputation of strong resale value and gets a top 55 percent three-year resale figure that’s “much better” than the Camry and Mazda 6, “And enough to give it the gong by a good margin” according to Wheels.

To win the Gold Star Value Award, the 2017 Subaru Legacy sedan was tops in the criteria considered by Wheels which was depreciation, insurance, fuel, purchase price, real cost, service and warranty. The Legacy beats the Toyota Camry and Mazda 6 in all categories.
