Video: Watch how Subaru BRZ GT300 is slowed down by crazy pit stop debacle

The 2015 Subaru BRZ GT300 race car finishes 5th at SUGO Sports Land round six. What happened in the pits?

The 2015 Subaru BRZ GT300 qualified in 7th position at the 6th round of the SUGO GT 300km race and finished in fifth place this weekend. The BRZ race car driven by Takuto Iguchi and Hideki Yamauchi finished 38.19 seconds off the first place car’s winning pace and missed the podium by 9 seconds. The race could have been closer if it wasn’t for a pit stop debacle that slowed the Subaru BRZ.

The race was marred by accidents and unexpected time loss after the safety car was introduced. One of the faster GT500 cars crashed on lap 25 on the long straight away, slowed the field and the pit lane was closed in accordance with the rules. On lap 30, when the race resumed, most cars came in to the pit and the congestion caused a 30 second delay for the BRZ as it got stuck behind other cars as it tried to re-enter the race.

The timing of the safety car, pit stop and congestion kept the #61 BRZ, managed by R&D Sport from entering back in their original position before the accident. The 2015 Subaru BRZ GT300 finished behind the winning VivaC 86 MC, Toyota Prius, GT, Gainer Tanax SLS and Manepa Lamborghini GT3. Next up is round seven at Autopolis on October 31-November 1. Stay tuned.
