Subaru WRX STI Gets Huge Price Reduction in Russia

Subaru Russia drops the price on the 2016 Subaru WRX STI. What’s the issue in Russia?

Subaru Motor LLC, distributor of Subaru cars in Russia and Belarus, has dropped the price on the 2016 Subaru WRX STI in a big way. Starting August 16, they dropped the price of the STI by 600,000 rubles ($9,389 US) and is 3.399 million rubles total ($53,193 US). Why the big price decrease?

According to Market Watch, the Russian economy is still in a recession and hasn’t recovered. They say, “There is still some way to go before the economy can even flatline again. The budget deficit is huge, and the government has been dipping into its reserve fund to finance itself. That will eventually run out.”

Russians likely can’t see their way clear to even think about buying the performance WRX STI. They will be able to see the sports sedan at the upcoming SubaFest held every August in Moscow. It’s the largest gathering of Subaru enthusiasts in Russia.

The Russians are just now getting the 2016 WRX STI, when most of the globe is seeing the 2017 models arrive. It gets a few model changes with automatic high beams, auto-dimming rear view mirror, improved smartphone compatibility and a new infotainment system with touchscreen. It also comes with a new Harmon/Kardon premium sound system and updated key design with keyless entry.
