Subaru Forester And Outback Are Now The Top 5 Most-Shopped SUVs

What are the most popular SUVs? A new report says the 2021 Subaru Forester and 2021 Subaru Outback are now in the top five.

Subaru is not the largest U.S. automaker, but they now have nine straight years of market share growth. Subaru just released its STEP 2.0 Vision progress report and says they have a 4.20 percent market share in the U.S., and it’s due to its two most popular models; the 2021 Forester and 2021 Outback.

Kelly Blue Book (KBB) just published its Brand Watch Report and reports Subaru had the highest increase in shopping consideration of any non-luxury automaker in Q1. Subaru’s all-wheel-drive Forester, Outback, and Crosstrek SUVs are leading the way. But two models are the most-shopped.

KBB says Sport Utility Vehicle-dominated brands like Subaru are riding the wave of SUV success, and this trend shows no signs of slowing down. The new KBB report says Subaru of America made the biggest advance overall with significant shopping growth for the 2021 Forester and 2021 Outback, both of which were among the Top 5 most-shopped SUVs and the Top 10 most-shopped vehicles overall.

The Subaru Outback had the highest increase in shopping consideration of any non-luxury vehicle, up a hefty 34 percent from the previous quarter. The Outback received a complete remodel in 2020 with a new 2.4-liter turbocharged engine and new upgrades inside.

The midsize SUV/crossover may gain further momentum as Subaru of America launches the 2022 Outback Wilderness trim package this summer. The Outback Wilderness is the first rugged sub-brand trim that will also include Forester and Crosstrek Wilderness models.

What is the price of the 2022 Subaru Outback?

The 2022 Outback comes in eight trim levels; the base trim is priced from $27,845, Premium ($30,270, Limited ($34,720), Touring ($38,620), Onyx Edition XT ($36,270), new for 2022, Outback Wilderness ($38,120), Limited XT ($39,120), and Touring XT ($41,070). Pricing includes $1,125 destination and delivery fees.

The 2021 Subaru Forester had the second-highest increase in shopping consideration, up 18 percent, making the all-wheel-drive vehicle the fourth most-shopped SUV. The Forester is the brand’s number one selling SUV in 2020 and continues to lead in the first four months of 2021. The 2022 Subaru Forester Wilderness is the next new model to launch later this year.

In the first quarter, the 2021 Subaru Forester and 2021 Subaru Outback are the five most-shopped SUVs in America. With the 2022 Wilderness models coming, they could gain further momentum this summer.
