The 44th staging of the Nurburgring 24-hour race was red flagged just 50 minutes after it started because of hail and heavy rain. The 2016 Subaru WRX STI is currently in 2nd place in their class with Hideki Yamaguchi behind the wheel.

The storm transformed the Nordschleife into a dangerously slippery track between a water slide and an ice rink. The race started in dry conditions but the weather deteriorated after just 50 minutes. It was an exciting start with no major incidents.

Then came the severe weather front. Conditions on the track deteriorated quickly and officials suspended the race. The storm left many cars stranded out on the track. Some cars made it back to the pit lane under their own steam, while others were towed back. The WRX STI made it back to the pit without incident.

After four laps the 2016 Subaru WRX STI NBR is ranked number two in class and 55th overall. The fastest lap was 09:17.850. The cars are back on the track trying to dry it out and getting ready for a restart if officials allow it. Stay tuned.
