New Goodyear Assurance Tire Test And A Subaru Crosstrek Summer Road Trip

What are the best summer tires for a subcompact SUV like the 2021 Subaru Crosstrek? We test the new Goodyear Assurance ComfortDrive tire on a mountain road trip. Check out the results here.

What are the best tires for a 2021 Subaru Crosstrek road trip? When we were asked to test the all-new Goodyear Assurance ComfortDrive tire, we jumped at the chance. We have a 2019 Subaru Crosstrek and live in Colorado, where you don't have to go far to find a great road trip.

The high mountain Guanella Pass at 11,670 feet elevation was the perfect day trip to test the new Goodyear tires. Goodyear says, "Drive comfortably, confidently and handle curves like a pro with ComfortFlex technology, designed for smoother transitions and impact absorption."

We had the perfect environment with lots of twisty mountain turns to test the new Goodyear tires. We got the new tires mounted at the Goodyear store in Evergreen, Colorado, and were treated well by store manager Joe Gatto and his staff. They had me in and out in less than an hour. The service also included a free alignment check.

We live at 8300 feet elevation in the Colorado Rocky Mountains and drove the 10 miles from our house to Georgetown, where we picked up the mountain pass entrance. It's a 22-mile loop on the newly paved road that ends up in Grant. It was a beautiful day, and the wildflowers were incredible.

We encountered several hairpin turns on the Guanella Pass road that gave a good test of the tire's grip. The tires went around the tight corners with no slippage.

After going over Guanella Pass, we continued another 30 miles to Bailey, through Conifer, and back to Evergreen. The tires mounted on the all-wheel-drive Crosstrek were smooth and offered a quiet ride at 70 mph highway speeds on the dry pavement. Our road trip was around 75 miles.

The Goodyear Assurance ComfortDrive is All-Season rated. Goodyear says the tire with AquaChannel grooves "are symmetrically balanced to help maximize water evacuation and reduce hydroplaning for superior wet performance."

We didn't encounter any rain on our road trip but did have the tires during this month's rainstorm. The tires shed the water and kept us stable at high-speed interstate driving.

We've put around 500 miles on the Goodyear Assurance ComfortDrive tires, which are also perfectly suitable for our unpaved gravel roads, and we felt confident on the muddy road. It's a good choice for a new 2021 Subaru Crosstrek or other small SUVs for summer driving.
