2015 WRX axed in Japan and Europe for new performance wagon

The new LEVORG that will make its global debut on November 20 in Tokyo, will replace the 2015 Subaru WRX in the Japan and European markets.

We just don’t appreciate wagons here in the U.S. like they do in Europe. So Subaru will replace the WRX performance sedan with the new LEVORG performance wagon. They’ll introduce it to the Japanese and European markets where they actually embrace the wagon. This new wagon concept will be the forerunner of the new performance wagon Subaru will introduce next year.

Subaru knows that the new LEVORG performance wagon will outperform the WRX sedan in sales in these markets. According to a report by Motoring.com.au in Australia, Subaru execs felt that the brand needed an injection of something completely different and because Europeans love their wagons, the LEVORG is that car. The name "LEVORG" is derived from a combination of the words "Legacy", "Revolution" and "Touring."

The LEVORG wagon will be powered by a new 1.6-liter direct-injection turbocharged boxer engine producing 125kW/255Nm and the new turbocharged 2.0-litre boxer generating 221kW/400Nm that first appeared in the 2014 Forester. This newly-developed engine will be a 1.6-liter Horizontally-Opposed direct injection turbocharged powerplant that was developed from the FB family of engines. This will be the first turbocharged version of the FB16 engine that will make it to market.

Subaru says LEVORG will feature its latest technologies in safety, driving dynamics and fuel-efficiency “at an exceptional level.” It sounds like the new Japan/European market LEVORG will be sporty. It will get a new exterior design and driving dynamics that will be sporty with the new turbo engine. Subaru sats it will offer the best in driveability, safety and environmental friendliness, combined with the practicality of a touring car. It will be a new type of sports tourer targeting the European market where they embrace the wagon.

The new LEVORG sport tourer will also employ the most advanced safety technologies. It will feature the next-generation EyeSight with many added safety functions and the newly launched steering support control. Stay tuned as the new LEVORG Sport wagon that will replace the 2015 WRX in Europe is unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show 2013 on November 20.
