2015 Subaru WRX STI Nurburgring 24H completes shakedown

Subaru has just completed a "shakedown" of its all-new 2015 WRX STI race car for the 2014 Nurburgring 24 hour Race.

The 2014 Nurburgring 24 hour race is scheduled for June 19-22 in Germany, and the 2015 Subaru WRX STI has completed its first shakedown. That’s what Subaru Technica International (STI) calls it when they test their new car to see how it performs. Subaru is aiming for its third SP3T class victory in the all-new 2015 WRX STI Nurburgring car and they need to check everything out on the race car.

STI, the performance and racing division of Subaru, will participate in the Nurburgring 24-Hour Race in 2014 again. This year they will bring the all-new 2015 WRX STI in full race trim to compete. The event will take place from June 19-22 in Germany at the famous Nurburgring.

Subaru and STI, the performance and racing division of Subaru, have just completed the shakedown of the 2015 WRX STI race car that has been built on the new-generation WRX STI that made its global debut this month in Detroit at NAIAS. The newly built 2015 WRX STI sedan will offer enhanced performance as the car has been reworked from last years 24-hour race car.

This Nurburgrig race car was introduced at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2014 earlier this month. Subaru has released a video of the world premiere at the show this year. General director Tatsumi Eiji, and drivers Toshihiro Yoshida and Kota Sasaki were on hand to answer questions and give a live talk for spectators at the show. The video below gives a great look at the all-new 2015 WRX STI race car as it turns on the display stand.

This will be the seventh consecutive year that the STI team will compete in the race. This car is developed from the all-new 2015 Subaru WRX STI. The STI team will aim for its third victory in the SP3T class this year following the 24-hour race in 2012. Last year, the WRX STI team started the race from 2nd position and was involved in a heavy head to head battle with Raeder Motorsport and the Audi TT RS 2.0, the winner of the qualifying.

Hideharu Tatsumi will take the helm of team operations again this year as team manager, in addition to spearheading the development of the new WRX STI race car. Toshihiro Yoshida and Kouta Sasaki are the team drivers from Japan and two more drivers will be added from from Europe.

The team finished second last year and are anxious to get the new 2015 Subaru WRX STI Nurburgring 24-hour race car back to first place. They have just completed the shakedown and are getting ready for more testing this spring. Get a close up look at the car from all angles in the video below.
